Lakers have 45M left in cap space.
They can sign Clarkson with the Gilbert Arenas provision for the mil level. That should be around 7M. Huertas is cheap and Black should be mid level too. Lets say they keep them 3 for 18m
Lakers are at 60M in payroll, have 12 players signed and have 34M in cap space. They can throw the max at any player now and just fill up the team with 8M. Lakers are not in a bad position now.

Some fans really just don't get it at all. I mean the Lakers likely tried to get meetings with Whiteside, Noah and Horford, but they weren't even going to meet. So what exactly should have been the plan from there? Just sit around and cry about it, or go for the next guy on the list and hope he takes the call, then he does, and you are complaining about them going after their next best option?
You would really rather the Lakers just wait around with their thumb up their Àss like they did last season with Aldridge? Then by the time they wait on these mythical centers, you are left with the choices for your starting center as: Roy Hibbert, Chris Kaman or Robert Sacre.
As for the overpaid thing, yea $64M over 4 years sounds like a lot for a 30yo, yet Noah got $70M at the same age with a far greater injury history than Mozgov (who has only missed 7 games in the last three seasons), it's about the market dictating the price now, and you will see many centers now getting around the same amount. Yet we don't even know the structure of the deal, there could be team option years, there could be unguaranteed money years. It could be that the first year salary is only 14.5M and it gets progressively more each year.
People need to get some perspective, this guy won a ring this season even though he wasn't used very much (playing small ball) but the season before that he really had a good series in the finals, and heck, he has played in two NBA finals, how many other centers on this list have that sort of experience? He's not here to make this team a contender, he's here to help this young team by doing the job he was signed for: Being a center, protecting the rim and doing the simple things that you want a center to do.

The Lakers came in with like $70M in cap space. They had to sign someone and this is the way the market is going. Biyombo/Ezeli/Mahinmi aren't really better and will in some cases cost more, Howard obviously won't go, Noah/Pau/Jefferson are too old for what LA is building, leaving you with Whiteside, Horford and Mozgov. Mozgov's probably the only one of the three that would look at them. I don't buy that he's fallen off as much as some claim either. He just didn't fit in the schemes Cleveland started to run on both ends.
I think it was an alright move to put them in a position to go after a big free agent next. They have a great offensive backcourt and a pretty balanced interior all locked up. Now they're in a position where they have a basic core to show free agents, as opposed to basically relying on collusion, and $40M to either max someone or build a really deep roster while banking on their current young guys improving. They could realistically be a 40-win team this coming season and maybe 45-50 the year after.
