Personally I think penalties ruin games. I dont mean in knockout games during overtime to crown a winner, but during regular game and regular time.

Penalties are often awarded for very minor offenses.

As of now, penalties result in a goal being scored 80 % of the time, I think they should move the penalty spot back a bit so it would be a 50/50 chance of scoring a goal. Penalties today are just too strong.

football is a sport where a tie is a perfectly normal result. The problem omes when you need to have a team win at all costs. That is what goes against the core of the sport. No matter what system you choose to determine the winner, it will always be wrong and unfair.
So haing it be one where mental fortitude and concentration is the determining factor is not so bad in perspective.

I'm someone who doesn't know much about soccer, and I find one very big flaw with the whole "penalties = luck" argument.

Penalty kicks happen during the actual game too. Are those just luck also? Does it take actual skill to score a penalty kick, or is it all just luck?

If it takes actual skill, then a penalty shootout is obviously not just a lottery. It it's just luck, then there's something fundamentally wrong with the sport of soccer that a team that is fouled inside the box has to rely on pure chance to score. Either way, something is wrong here.
>>

Why not just provide a greater incentive to score goals during the 90 minutes to make draws less likely in the first place? For example 3-2 could be worth more points for the victor than a 1-0 victory.
>>
>>69106702
This looks like such a drag
When thinking about things like this, you have to take into account that teams will do anything and everything to win
Giving literally infinite time encourages boring time consuming tactics
>>
>>69106811
We're talking about penalties here, these happen during knockout stage
There are no points involved, you either pass or get btfo'd
Come on get it together
>>
Solution:
If a game is still tied after regulation, then each team will select 4 players to play a 4 on 4 game using small goals played on a field that is slightly smaller than the penalty box. First to 3 goals wins. No luck, pure skill
>>
You know what we REALLY need and would fix most of Football's problems?

this, plus the fact that most penalty offences end in a red card so goal + player sent off = double punishment for an offense that sometimes could even be a ref's mistake. and if the player gets a suspension out of it too that's a triple punishment.

I think a fundamental problem with football in general is that the ruleset pretty much in itself encourages "playing to draw"

>90 minutes regular playtime
>11 players on each team
>Relatively big field
>Very limited amount of subs
etc.

People get exhausted after these long playtimes, there's like a million people on the field so you can always let plenty of people pretty much cuddle the goalkeeper etc. I don't think it's surprising that even the big teams that are supposed to crush their opponent will often find themselves in situations where they will draw or just barely scrape by with one late goal or something.

If the fields were smaller, play-time and player amount was reduced I bet a lot of problems would just be resolved. It's hard to camp the bus when your opponent has less distance to cover, you have less players at your disposal, people have more energy and managers can sub more freely etc.

Hockey way + more subs

At beginning of overtime, -1 player both sides + extra subs. At 15 minutes -1 again with an extra sub...repeat till one comes out on top. After the first 30 minutes, golden goal is in effect

FIXED

I remember that match. It pissed me off so fucking much...
>>

Dubs confirms.

Only logical solution in this thread
>>

Smaller fields help the defense. Offense works better with room to work.

I'd rather see silver goal rules adapted to where teams had to each take a player off at the start of extra time, and remove another player after each 15 minute interlude.

But penalties are here to stay.
>>
>>69109793

Yeah I prefer this, but as much as announcers "protest" the "luck" of penalties, they secretly love it all coming down to a last dramatic moment.

Let's be honest, most people don't remember shit about the '94 WC Final except for Baggio putting it into orbit.

that explains everything... Amerilard way of thinking.

Still trying to understand why the fuck that first Spain goal was disallowed
>>
ITT : people that never took a PK
>pressure on whoever take the shoot
>GK trying mind games
>requires power and precision
>a bit of luck if you don't have one of these two

Penalties are perfect
>>
>>69108159
Netherlands subbed their GK for Krul and he guess every sides opponents shot and saved 1 or 2.
>>
>>69110166
Not only that but the entire objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the net, penalties are literally the embodiment of this. If you cant shoot and your gk cant save a ball, you've no one to blame but yourselves.

>How do we fix this shit?
by scoring in normal time
>>
PK's are OP, bring back the NASL shootout

Or give 5 corner kicks with 5 seconds on the shot clock
>>
>>69109540

They score almost for sure anyway on penalty kicks.
>>
>>69104538
Can an NASLfag post that youtube vid of pre-MLS pro US soccer doing exactly this? Keks were had and will be had for yuros who havent seen it
>>
>>69104920
Thank you based germany for setting the gooks straight
>>
>>69104651

Hockey fans fucking hate the shootout too. I would rather see my team tie than win or lose in a fucking shootout.

But every governing body for every sport loves muh drama

They fixed that rule this year

Most fouls in the box, unless they are really fucking retarded, will now only be yellows
>>
>>69108501

For that, no. The ref from the Italy game was suspended several times for giving favorable calls to other teams and then was caught smuggling heroine into New York (got 2.5 years in prison). Another ref from that World Cup got arrested for taking bribes and fixing matches

All of those countries have protested to FIFA. Surprised it hasn't been opened back up after Blatter fell
>>
It should be corner kick shootouts instead of penalty shootouts. At least then the entire team could participate.
>>
Fixing penalties is easy. Have 2 goal keepers in net that way it makes it harder to score
>>
>>69104441
Why is there always a thread of an american saying "you should change this or that in football" if you always say you don't care about this sport? Seriously, nobody wants this ideas in football. What people REALLY cares about is allowing camera reviews and things like that
>>
>>69108353
It's an educated guess, not that a leaf would know what education is.
>>
>>69104441
They should allow in the additional time no offline rule, so that teams aren't so defensive. More goals more fair Imo.
>>
>>69111128
maybe because penalties are blind luck and don't determine the most deserving team?
>Costa rica
Oh, that's why this question was retarded.
>>
>>69111415
>an american
>calling me retarded
>in a football thread

Nevermind, I don't consider neither that penalties always define in favor of the most deserving team, but they are surely not pure luck at professional level. As it was stated a trillion times in the thread, they actually probe concentration and mental fitness

When was the last time a team won two shootouts during EC or WC?

Watch a sport in which a fucking 0-0 result isn't possible after 120min+ of play.
Fag.

>>69111415
It's not blind luck, and there are more pressing issues in world football

Education is $40k a year, right?
>>
>>69106524
You don't know jackshit about soccer or how any sport works apparently.

A PK during the regulation time is supposed to be a gimme because when a team is rewarded a penalty that means they were denied an obvious scoring opportunity from the box, so they should be easy.

PKs to determine the match result are stupid however because they are fucking cheap goals. Golden goal is better. If you wanna win and not be tired for the rest of your matches, fucking score.

They should add 3 extra subs in extra time though
>>
>>69111702
they've already added 1 not sure if uefa adopted this yet though
>>
>>69104920
Cheating dog eating cunts. Hope North Korea nukes them off the face off the earth.
