My honest opinion about Renato as a Sportinguista.
He has the potential to be a once in a generation player for Portugal, like Ronaldo or Figo or Eusébio were. He's not gonna win Ballon d'Ors because he's a MC, but he might be one of the best in the world at his position. He's a fucking beast physically, he runs like a motherfucker on defense and he is able to get some dangerous runs on offense because he is so strong and fast.
He definitely needs work though. Lost on defense at times, overcommits a lot which ruins the defensive balance. Decent vision but his passing is average at best and he still needs to understand the finer tactical details, he passes to the wrong side of the pitch too often.
The best thing that could've happened to him is moving to Bayern, where they will teach him these things. At Benfica he would stall his development after a couple of years. Ronaldo was also lucky to leave Sporting at an early age so he could evolve at a bigger club in a more competitive league.
