He was first all defensive team 4 years in a row, league's leading shot block 4 years in a row, was consistently ranked on of the top 5 PF's since 2012, was top 10 in 2011.
It's just how the game changed in recent years, it's really not his fault or some physical "peak" or change in actual ability. He was drafted into the league not knowing how to shoot the ball and is now one of the best shooter among big men, he's just not consistent offensively and he's been able to take up the "draymond green" role he was given in OKC to be a playmaking/passing 4 that can shoot threes and guard positions 1-5 on the three point line and the paint.
Whenever he gets switched on Curry or Klay he hurts them when he's on the floor. He's at his best when he plays as a PF/C and nothing else.
