I predicted a 4-2 loss to Argentina before USA even played their quarterfinal, so I wasn't too far off.
Not having Bobby Wood and Jermaine Jones really hurt the team. With Wood on the field I think the US and Dempsey would have scored at least one cheeky goal to end the half.

In the USA, however, only the fucking weird kids, stoners, geeks, betas who couldn't get into any other scholastic athletic team join soccer, with maybe the occasional football/basketball/track-and-field kid that wants to stay fit during the off-season. The girls' team is full of dykes and nerdy chicks that want to fluff up their college resume with athletics.
If you're a pro athletein the NFL, NBA, etc, you can expect to make a couple million a year during your career, comparable to euro footy counterparts. except if you're a soccer player, that drastically drops to just over 100k. And they're paid that low because no one gives a shit here (or anywhere) about the MLS. Why? Because the MLS is shit. Why? Because soccer attracts the lowest-tier talent of nearly all other sports in the country. Why? because there's no real money in it.
The only way to "fix" US soccer if for more and more people to watch soccer, up ratings, and fill up stadiums. More people were watching Big Bang Theory reruns than this semi-final.

The other problem with the US is that even in decent college programs there is general situations where there is one guy that is simply much better than the rest of the squad and they can more or less dominate matches throughout their development as players.
It's only when these guys get to MLS or try to play club football in Europe that they suddenly get faced with a much higher level of play.
Very few seem to be able to make the transition to becoming even good european club quality. Most of the good ones that in theory are decent quality tend to go over, get put on mediocre mid-table squads in the PL and then get completely overwhelmed by the superior quality of play.
So they basically give up and go back and play MLS because you can be a mediocre player in Europe and be a virtual god in MLS.
But the truth of the matter is that you need to be testing yourself against the best to keep improving.
