Anaheim here........Freddie 's positional style in net was ALWAYS so much more calming as a fan, compared to Gibson. Gibson appears at this point in his development to be less able to maintain position. Freddie also didn't get injured with ANY regularity, Gibson is a bit of any injury magnet so far.....I would have kept Andersen, but since we're a discount team, Gibson makes more financial sense. I like Gibson too, but when you see how Freddie plays, so calm, so positional, you'll know what I mean. Most fans here thought Andersen deserved the start in the playoffs too.
Freddie was ALWAYS a good teammate. Never complained and was always willing to do as asked, whether starting or backing. Had we signed him at 5 mil. Per, I would be happy. Kessler and Bieksa, whom I value, I feel were over termed and overpaid. So I'm not just rubber stamping whatever our g.m. does.

In any sensible plan he'll start with bottom pairing minutes and work his way up. He's a rookie with less than 10 games played. The best defenceman award in the WHC was pretty much a meme, half the Canadian D was better than him but he won because of points and +/-. Plus the tournament was on big ice, which makes great skaters like Matheson look better. I was pretty sure last season that young D like Parayko and Gostisbehere would be ready to play in the top 4 as soon as they stepped into the NHL, I don't think Matheson's quite there yet.

austin czarnik is the better option at 3c for the bruins right now, they're trading from a position of strength for something they need badly. shattenkirk is a 2nd pairing guy on a real defense, but naturally, he's sadly the best D on the team instantly if acquired. spooner is a great set up man, but has no finish. he was very good assist wise 5on5 this past year. that said, he had extremely favorable deployments and was bad defensively by all meaningful metrics even given his very, very easy matchups playing behind bergeron and krejci. i've seen czarnik and spooner both extensively in providence, and spooner on the big club obviously. czarnik is the better pro.
