Running thread

I run 5 km in 38 minutes, and you /sp/?

Also, what running app you use? Runkeeper here.
>>

>>
Step up your game lad, I run 5km in 21 minutes 30 seconds (looking to get it under 20 mins desu). Use Map My Run, it's not bad, looks pretty similar to your one.
>>
5km in 17 minutes here.

Stay fat and slow everyone else.
>>
>>68762841
My 5k average is around 32 minutes. I use runtastic
>>
>>68763000
That's an amazing time. Trying to improve mine, but it's slower than I planned to. Any advice?

Record 5km for me was 24min when I was in decent shape.

Record 3km was 12:30

Record Cooper-test was 2900 metres.

Then I started smoking
>>
i tried 5 different apps and they gave me 5 different distances on a lap around the block

Where do you guys usually run? I do here, in the beach near my home.
>>
>>68763306
Are you OP?

Running on sand is a lot harder than running on asphalt/gravel, so don't feel too bad about your time.
>>
>>68763124
Thanks - I've been running ~2 times per week for the last year and was always quite athletic anyway, so I have the advantage over quite a lot of people that way. Only advice is to make it a habit and don't be too hard on yourself - keep at it and the improvements will happen. I don't know too much about the technical side of things, but I think it's important to prioritise stride length and comfortable rhythm instead of wasting all your energy just trying to go all-out.
>>
>>68763306
you run on the sand or pavement? running on sand sounds uncomfortable
>>
>>68763172
Phone GPS are pretty garbage. When I got my GPS watch I found out most of my routes were like half a km less than I thought
>>
>>68762841
I ran a 14:45 on a legitimate 5k course a year ago. I became anemic shortly after and haven't ran at all in a year.

I ran back in high school and was fairly quick on the track so it's not like I've never ran before or don't understand anything about serious training.

I really need to get back into running but it's too fucking hot and humid in Texas and running at 6:30AM is hard to start doing again

Nah, I run on the pavement. Started last month and this was the first time that did 5 km. Am not fat, just stopped to exercise when I started to work

Listening to this while running. Fuck kojima.

Are you sure? That's only a couple of minutes behind the men's world record. It's probably equal to the world record for a non-African. I'd guess 14:45 would be a national standard time desu.
>>
>>68763827
That's really really fast, but not impossible. Seconds become really large gaps when getting closer to records. NR in USA is 13.01. 1 minute and 45 seconds is a really really large gap.
>>
I ran 16 for 5k back when I was fit but I was better at the shorter distances. Now I just do 18 minutes for 5k. Honestly slower than 25 is embarrassing. Even my fat mates can do that

Did you walk? At least you're exercising.

Only "app" I use is mapmyrun to create routes.

I used to be a cross country runner and 200/400m sprinter back in high school. Sucked at XC, 18:48 was my best 5k time.

Getting back into distance running again now for the first time in years. Ran a half marathon a few weeks ago with no training, don't recommend doing that. Wanted to kill myself by mile 11. Lately I've been doing ~25 miles/40km per week. If I run my 5k route "hard" It'll be around 21:30. Probably gonna enter a race by the end of the summer and see what I can do.

>>68763124
Just run consistently. Doesn't have to be fast or far at first, as long as you're running at least 4 days a week. Your time will drop a crazy amount, which will motivate you to train even more. Remember that the worst part of running is that first week. It sucks so much at first but then your body adapts and you enjoy it.

when in good shape i run it in 27 minutes.

I use a tomtom running watch with music and heartrate , which can then sync with any app you like, though the provided tomtom app suits me just fine
>>
Started running 13 months ago
My best 5k ~28m
>>
When I was running every day, about 3 years ago I did a 5k at 17.45 competitively and 18.05 just training. Now I run once or twice a week on weightlifting rest days and sit around 21/22 minutes without pushing it too hard. I used Nike Running, Run Keeper, and MapMyRun.
>>
>>68763827
Haha
The men's world record is 12:37
The difference between 14:45 and 12:37 is astronomical.
I was running 50-60 miles per week during that time with some pretty hard workouts.
>>
>>68765387
Well that's a very impressive time, congrats. How old were you then? Surely that's the sort of time that would get you noticed - at the regional, if not the national, level.

At least i can sprint
>>
>>68762841
I do 5k a few times a week, around 25 minutes. I'm not the fastest at long distance running, I just do it to keep the body ticking over. Prefer to play sports, football and tennis mainly.
>>
>>68765464
I'm 21 and no not at all.
I was planning on walking on to the XC/track team my freshmen year of college but that ended up not working out. They are perennially a top 20 team at name nationals in cross country. But I wouldn't have made the top 7 even when I was in shape

For reference to qualify for the 5000m at the US Olympic Trials you have to run 13:28
>>
19:00 is my pr for 5k was in the military though and had a runners body then. right now I run around 21 area but I'm a lot more muscular and don't run more then a couple times a week
>>
>>68765464
>Surely that's the sort of time that would get you noticed

That's a great time for non-runners and amateurs, but it's a shitty time for actual competitors.

If you're not doing 5K in 4:30's or less, than you're a scrub in the track world.

Actual track dudes run stupid fast...

>I run 5 km in 38 minutes

The bad news is that 12 + minute miles isn't "running".

The good news is that you're capable of at least walking fast for almost 40 minutes.

Get a heart rate monitor, anon, as that's the best piece of equipment you can have to help you make progress.

Learn how to determine a good training heart rate for your personal circumstances, and use the heart rate monitor to manage your training.

Unless you know what training heart rate is appropriate for you, you could be going too fast (unlikely), or worse, too damn slow and wasting time.

Best of luck, regardless.

In highschool I was a multiple state champion in cross country and track, ran a 15:04 5k. Joined the Marine Corps and have now since regressed to a 16:24.
