While Andersen's stats are a slight upgrade over Reimer, the more significant thing to consider is that Reimer has never played more than 37 games in a season and likely never will. He's either always injured (has had a shitton of concussions), or there's just been someone else in front of him (Bernier, or this season Jones). Now he's 28 years old, I don't see him suddenly turning into a dependable workhorse goaltender.
Andersen has shown he can play a lot more games and he's going to get the chance to be a real workhorse next season. It's unfortunate for Reimer but I don't think any team would be comfortable with a guy with an injury history like his being their main option.

There is literally NEVER a moment where you aren't competitive in the NHL. You CANNOT rebuild without being competitive. Every single prospect/youth/new player needs to come in and play to win at all costs. Leafs haven't gone out and gotten a 30 goal scoring winger or a 1D partner for Rielly. But the Leafs don't have a goaltending prospect. You can't throw Bibeau/Sparks onto the Leafs and expect them to even hit .900% or survive playing all season. He's not a stopgap to fill in the shoes.
