NBA eliminates conferences and divisions. 1 home and 1 away with every other team in the league for 58 games. 3 additional games vs former divisional opponents meaning 12 games (2 home and 2 away) for a total of 70 games. The remaining 12 games would be random games against teams excluding the 4 in your former division.
This is very similar to the current system but there will be no things such as conference or divisional W-L. So let's just pick the Lakers for example here. They'd play:
4 games: 2 home and 2 away vs Clippers, Suns, Warriors, and Kings.
3 games: 1 home and 1 away + random (4 of the series they'd play 2 home and 1 away while the other 4 would be 1 home and 2 away) vs the Mavericks, Spurs, Knicks, Nets, Pelicans, Nuggets, Trail Blazers, Thunder, Magic, Hawks, Hornets. Pistons, Cavaliers, 76ers, Bucks, Pacers
2 games: 1 home and 1 away vs Timberwolves, Bulls, Jazz, Raptors, Rockets, Grizzlies, Celtics, Wizards, Heat
The playoffs would be seeded 1-16. This would've seen The 1 Warriors vs the 16 Bulls. Bulls were the 9th seed in the East but had a better record than the 8 seeded Rockets in the West. I didn't look at tie break so the Bulls could've been ahead of the Grizzlies and maybe the Mavericks as well. This change in NBA would be more fun in terms of tracking seeding, especially the #1 overall seed. No more would the Western teams beat each other up while the East had one team coast it's way to the Finals.

or they might swap their own 2017 first-round pick with the celtics' #31 this year to get another shot at a rookie-scale contract contributor, if they have someone on their board they think they can snatch early second round.
