With the removal of Baylor President Ken Starr, this means three interim presidents at the Big 12 Presidents meeting on Tuesday.
Looks like you're fucked for another year, Dead Conference Walking.

>not posting link to previous thread in the op
>my face when people actually think the team with the best defense and a top 10 offense in the country will miss the playoffs next season
>noted Heisman winner Jeremy Johnson (objectively and statistically the best QB in the 2013 recruiting class, it isn't even debatable)
>Jovon Robinson (best RB in the game who will be 100% healthy, unlike the entirety of last year. he will put up 1200+YDs/10+TDs/5.0YPC)
>Chandler Cox (a top 3 FB already going into this season, 1000+YDs/7+TDs)
>Kamryn Pettway (literally a Chandler Cox-clone)
>Tony Stevens (top 10 WR, 900+YDs/5+TDs)
>Tray Matthews (a black guy trapped in a black's body, one of the smartest players in football, elite measurables, incredible upside)
>Kerryon Johnson (one of the fastest and most explosive players in football)
>Carl Lawson (best DE in country)
>Best pass rush in the SEC
>Best LB corp in the SEC
>Besy secondary in the country
>Top 5 D-Line
Barring major injuries to key players, there is literally no way the Tigers are missing the playoffs this season

Bama
Ole Miss
LSU
Maybe:
Arkansas
>>67935052
Oh wait, I read that wrong. Those are the teams that will beat Auburn
>>67934988
Preseason delusional me: 15-0
Relatively realistic me: Mississippi State (I don't think they can replace Prescott that easily), Arkansas (because it's at home), two of LSU, Ole Miss, A&M or Bama, in addition to Vandy, potentially Georgia, and the non-P5 teams we play, for an 8-4 or 9-3 season before bowl.
>>67934974

>>67935295

we may have not had the most success in football, but we won the basketball championionship in 1943, and may win it again soon with how much we've improved. also we won skiing championonionship in '68. our football team will prob be a solid 7-5 next year.

no because there is already 4 in texas. 7-5 is a starting point for us. we would improve from there, and if we can win 8+ every year from 2020 to 2025 the XII or pac would be calling for us. especially because we will likely have at least a few final fours and maybe a championionship in bball. i'm not saying we're ready yet, but it would be a good investment for one of them to get us.

the Big XII is a long shot for y'all...but you still may join a Power Conference someday.
Eventually, odds are that the P5 will split off from G5-- Cost of Attendance and level of competition, among other things, will ultimately cause the split.
But here's the kicker:
There are enough good teams and good media markets OUTSIDE the P5 to make up a whole new Power Conference. I think these teams will form a new, sixth, power conference.
If you're lucky, Wyoming will be one of those lucky G5s. Boise will almost assuredly be. For now, focus on WINNING.
Look at what Houston has done in a short time. Winning the Access Bowl could do wonders for Wyo. Concentrate on the here and now.

for a team that conferences are supposed to act quick on they sure dont get any media attention. shit, even Georgia Southern gets more media attention and its in statesboro georgia, have you ever herd of that place?
its not rude, youre just bothering people with a pipe dream and a delusion that is easily dispelled. especially since your school is about to impliment state sanctioned budget cuts. teams with "fan support" dont need budget cuts. sorry to burst your bubble buddy
Why?oming should pull an Idaho and drop to FCS if I'm being forthright with you

Traditional wisdom is USM + WKU, though the CUSA West has been up for grabs every year since realignment.
SB Nation has a whole site set up for G5 teams, underdogdynasty.com
>my face when people actually think the team with the best defense and a top 10 offense in the country will miss the playoffs next season
>Brandon Peters (objectively and statistically the best QB in the 2016 recruiting class, it isn't even debatable)
>Ty Isaac (best RB in the game who will be 100% healthy, unlike the entirety of last year. he will put up 1200+YDs/10+TDs/5.0YPC)
>Jake Butt (a top 3 TE already going into this season, 1000+YDs/7+TDs)
>Sean McKeon (literally a Jake Butt-clone)
>Amara Darboh (top 10 WR, 900+YDs/5+TDs)
>Jabril Peppers (a black guy trapped in a black's body, one of the smartest players in football, elite measurables, incredible upside)
>Kareem Walker (one of the fastest and most explosive players in football)
>Joe Beneducci (best blocking FB in country)
>Best pass rush in the B1G
>Best LB corp in the B1G
>Besy secondary in the country
>Top 5 D-Line
Barring major injuries to key players, there is literally no way the Wolverines are missing the playoffs this season

Only a nigger wouldn't go there.
>>67970868
So it's based because only white people go there? It's not 1985 anymore, brotism.
REASONS WHY SMU SUCKS:
1) It's not even Power 5
2) It's a downtown campus next to the freeway, nothing is in walking distance
3) It's a downtown campus next to the freeway, so exhaust fumes 24/7.
4) Students thing their value as people is related to how much money their parents have.
5) Bulldozed off-campus apartments to build a library for the worst President in American history.
If you love based Texas athletics so much, go to a Big 12 school or U of H. These are facts.

Wisconsin.
There are many, many reasons to hate Alabama. First and foremost, they are unethical. Every now and then an article pops up on how some recruit's uncle just happened to find a brand new Mercedes. I'll give Bama credit, they have some amazing PR. There's no doubt in my mind that they have full-time staff working on hiding any controversy from the general public. Sending cease and desist letters to anyone willing to expose their recruiting violations. Death threats to any journalists willing to break the news. It takes gall, that's for sure.
I guess what peaves me the most is how they've gotten away with it for so long. USC was crushed after winning only two championships. Ohio State got a whole season taken away for lesser crimes. North Carolina might even face some penalties after their whole shindig. But Alabama remains untouched by the NCAA.
I just want justice, that's really it. Justice for how boring and predictable they've made the game. You know damn well going into this year that Alabama will win the national championship. You know that they will not lose a single game.
It's just not exciting anymore. I know full well that my team will literally never win a national championship in my lifetime. I'm fine with that, I came to acceptance with that fact a long time ago. But I still like to see some competition. I was rooting for Clemson last year against Bama because it would have been a nice mix-up. Clemson hasn't won it all since 1981. It clearly meant a lot to the team and their fans. To Alabama, winning a national championship means absolutely nothing now. It's expected. They're like a spoiled child who simply cannot appreciate the little things in life.
What really sucks is that there is no end in sight. Nick Saban may be 64 years old, but he's very healthy for his age. He's more a recruiting figure than anything these days; Lane Kiffin calls all the shots while Nick's image is used for recruiting. Saban will be there until ~2025.

ACC, SEC, PAC, B1G- 16 teams each.
ACC gets ravaged by B1G and SEC. 4 B12 teams go to PAC. remainder of B12 and ACC merge
4 independents- OU, Texas, Navy, Notre Dame. Independents team up with conferences to make deals like what ND currently has (Navy:SEC, ND:ACC, OU:B1G, Texas:PAC). OU and Texas remake the LHN to split between them. ND keeps contract w/ NBC. Navy makes contract to play home games on ESPN family channels.
8 team playoff: 1st round is conference championship. Selection committee used to decide the top 2 teams of every conference. Independents can play in their affiliate conference championship if they are ranked top 2.

Constructing a new rivalry isn't as easy as you think. Look at Colorado. They lost Nebraska and their big rival now is Utah. It's a fun game, but as a CU alum the rivalry with them feels forced. UT and OU have been major rivals for well over 100 years, you can't just plug in another school to replace THAT.
On top of that, given the conference's reputation already with Texas and Oklahoma still there, their public perception is going to implode if one of them goes. At that point why would the other even want to stay? It's fairly obvious to even casual fans that they both regret not leaving when they had the chance (especially Oklahoma) and best-case scenario for the conference is they both stay until the GoR runs. If one goes the other has an out and there's no way they won't take it even if they end up in different conferences.
If you know how and why the Big 12 was founded the conference owes its entire existence to the belief that putting Oklahoma and Texas together would keep them both from leaving. The Big 8 took the four Texas schools because they were afraid OU would join the SEC if they didn't. The SWC schools that made the jump agreed to it because they were afraid Texas would leave them for the Pac-10 if they didn't.
>>68030956
>CU alum
oh hey I've been wanting to speak to one of you guys forever. I'm one of those faggots who'd like to see the PAC expand again sometime in the future by poaching the MWC instead of the "big" "xii". per PAC rules, every team has to have a "local" partner, so utah and colorado got stuck together by process of elimination. if we brought in 2 more schools again though, one each from utah and colorado, who would be the natural rival for each from the options that are out there? obviously we can't get nebraska, nor would it be a great fit, but colorado state, air force, utah state, and BYU should all be doable given the right conditions.
>>68030956
>Paragraph 1
It feels forced in 2016, but give it a minute. You'll be on your way to a conference championship, playing a meaningless game, and they will beat you, and it will hurt. And you will be angry. And anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Suffering leads to painting your face team colors and standing outside in the rain in December.
>Paragraph 2
>why would either stay?
To rule the conference with no one in their way. Public perception means fuck all, you can just issue a press release, the remaining teams want to keep that ESPN TV contract $$$.
>Paragraph 3
I know exactly how and why the conference was founded, they wanted to stop at 10, and the then-governor made them take Tech and Baylor anyway. Seeing as how UT or OU /didn't/ go to the SEC three years ago, we can safely assume they'd rather be a big fish in their shitty gerrymandered pond, than on equal footing with the toothless hillbillies of Mississippis 1&2.
The entire conference is Texas's bitch. If UT leaves, the conference will sort that shit out. If OU leaves, UT will replace them with another bitch. If both leave, the other conferences will beg any MW/AAC team who will have them so they can keep the Big 12 contact alive until it expires.
See you in the new thread.

But while expansion is fun to think about, the PAC-12 last expanded along academic lines, only. None of those schools you mentioned are good enough.

I don't think any of them are realistic given what the Pac-12 wants. They're about as uppity regarding academics as the Big Ten and have a huge hard-on for olympic sports.
Utah State and Colorado State don't have the academic or athletic profile that the conference wants and I don't think they're capable of getting to that level. That leaves BYU and Air Force, and they've got their own issues.
BYU would be a non-starter for both sides. Most of the conference, especially the California schools, don't want a religious school. BYU refuses to play on Sundays and I just can't see the conference accommodating that.
Air Force is the one that ticks the major boxes. They're a service academy so they're big on academics and leadership. They're probably the best service academy athletically as well. The only problem is Air Force doesn't want to be in a major conference because it would involve too many academic compromises for their athletes. Supposedly the Big 12 tried to get them to join a few years ago and they said no because they didn't want anything bigger than the Mountain West.

This sounds right. There's no way WVU was the first choice.

I'm not saying UNC is a super high-caliber team. They're basically an inferior version of Oregon or TCU. But they'll be pretty solid, Georgia too.

Michigan wasn't even down for very long, and they are currently on the rise. Going from 5-7 to 10-3 without any of Harbaugh's recruits is something. Michigan could already be a dark horse playoff contender this year. Juggernauts do fall, but many do not stay dead.
>no one wants to go to Nebraska
The current recruiting class under Mike Riley disagrees with you. Also, Bill Callahan was able to bring in Top-10 classes, but just couldn't develop the talent. Could you imagine if another Dantonio or Harbaugh took over at Nebraska? They would be a regular contender.
You have absolutely no argument.

the only thing that speaks to is how bad of a coach Hoke was. They were bringing in pretty good talent when hoke was there
