You play each team in your division twice, one home and one away, every single year. The rest of the games are against teams from two other divisions, but you only play them once and the field is determined by the league or a coin flip for all I know. In the end, each team has 8 home games and 8 away games

there's no coin flipping involved. 6 of a team's 16 games are against divisional opponents, 4 are against a division in the same conference (which rotates every 3 years), 4 against a division in the opposite conference (which rotates every 4 years), and 2 more games against one team each in the other divisions in your conference not listed above, according to the place they finished within their divisions the year prior (so 3rd placed teams in the same conference will play each other)
because of this I can tell you the home and away opponents for 14 out of 16 games for any team for the next decade, with the other 2 games depending on how well every team plays.

if you're playing them because of the divisional rotation, then the location is the opposite of the last time they had that rotation. if it's because of how you finished last season, those are predetermined so that something like this happens

this is assuming the NFCW-NFCE and NFCN-NFCS are playing entire divisions that season
so, if that happens, then the next time that cycle comes around again, they reverse who plays the ranked games at whose stadium, but this is dependent on the cycle not the very last time they played. because of that it's possible to play on the road against the same team 3 times in a row due to coincidence. it's all formulaic though.

also I should note, when playing against the entire NFCW or AFCW, they had to change the cycle a while back. since you'd play 2 of the 4 on the road, they wanted to even out the travel time between your divisional rivals so that one of you didn't have to travel to both oakland and san diego while another guy only gets kansas city and denver. this was a while back though now, but it slightly altered the rotations at the time.
