Sanga is literally one of the most insightful and well-spoken people in cricket and English obviously isn't even his first language.
Listen to the MCC Spirit of Cricket (or whatever its called) speech he gave a few years ago, you can probably find it on cricinfo. It's an interesting listen about Shit Lanka's cricketing history.
"Sri Lanka are winning" - Daniel
"Usman Khawaja doesn't open" - Daniel
"BJ Watling is the best gloveman in the world" - Daniel
"Brian Lara was overrated" - Daniel
Cricket is straight
"Ivana is a babe" – Daniel
Good day sir, my name is Daniel.
I’m a 20 year old New Zealander (annexed-Australian for you Big Strong Americans). I watch cricket every day, and spend my time perfecting my PUA techniques and reviewing music from superior black metal bands (Burzum, Alcest, Deafheaven)
I train with my copy of The God Delusion every day, this superior piece of literature can disprove the fallacy of religion and, coupled with my IQ of 250, means that theists cannot keep up with me in intellectual debate. I earned my fedora two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.
I shitpost fluently, both /cric/ and the /rug/ dialect, and I memewell as well. I know everything about mechanical engineering and their virginity code, which I follow 100%
When I get my visa, I am moving to England to attend a prestigious Durham county game to learn more about their magnificent cricket club. I hope I can become Ivana’s boyfriend or finally make my car stop stinking!
I own Durham whites, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to England, so I can fit in easier. I shitpost Australians and curries, and say “tbqh” as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond tbqh.
Wish me luck in England!

So guys, I've been stalking this Ivana slag on fb and we've actually got quite a few mutual friends with her.
My plan is to get one of my mates to introduce me to her, and woo her over. Being /fit/ and possessing a 8.4 GPA, this should be no great challenge. Once I have made her my gf, I will spend whatever time I have in her social circle, cucking Daniel. Every single time he's around, I will stick my tongue deep down her throat, and make eye contact with him THE WHOLE TIME. I will then drink a glass of /milk/ once I'm finished, never taking my eyes off Daniel, before teaching my new gf the virtues of thrash metal and the greatness of Yorkshire Cricket Club.

So seriously Daniel, unless you have anything important, anything noteworthy, anything of even less value than that civil major, kindly do us all a favour and don't speak.
I've never had a problem with blocking out yorkers, in fact it often increases my confidence because they're some of the only deliveries I can block 10 times out of 10. Anything hitting top of off and I'm fucked.
But I wouldn't take any advice I have for you given that my entire batting technique revolves around blocking and not getting out

/cric/ has been around since AT LEAST 2010. The first series I remember having dedicated threads on /sp/ was the 2010-11 Ashes series, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were even earlier ones.
Daniel is the epitome of classic textbook technique and power hitting. The key aspects of his batting game are his fantastic front foot driving ability and a strong backfoot game characterised by a trademark Daniel pull shot through midwicket. The secret to his clean hitting is the shape he maintains during and after hitting those big shots. Even while he plays outrageous strokes, like the flat-batted swipe over the bowler's head, he manages to stay quite composed. His arms, shoulders and torso are always firm, rarely losing shape.
Daniel holds several fourth grade Auckland records in 50 and 20 over games. Some of them include, the highest 50 over score in a run-chase, highest one day international score by a virgin batsman, highest 50 over batting average of all virgin opening batsmen who have scored over 1000 runs and highest 20 over strike rate of all opening batsmen who have played over 30 matches.
>you will never see an opening partnership of Cock and Warncuck going 500 off 923 balls
Why live
Cricket, to me, is an epic. It is unlike any other sport. Every single match is like a total battle between two teams, with battles within battles all over it. As Ian Chappell said, cricket is not a team sport, it is an individual sport played in groups. It is the sum of one team versus the sum of the other. I love seeing the epics unfold as certain bowlers take on certain batsmen, across overs and days and even weeks in a series.
T20 is shit. Sometimes I have to walk around it and be like "eh it's okay" as to not offend people but being brutally honest, it's fucking garbage. It's all luck and power, there's no grace or subtlety or finesse. Cricket is elegant and smooth and skilful. T20 is brash and crude and juvenile. Whenever I watch a T20 I see no slips, no catchers, no interesting tactics. I see a bowler bowling a rank full toss, a batsman slashing aimlessly at it and getting caught. A bad ball, a bad shot - a wicket. It's almost always like that. A good ball in test cricket is beautiful. A good ball in T20 is one that flies sideways out of your hand and knee height to the batsman, but it's okay because in his wild heave he missed it.
>>67734265
Are you the BSA in the faces of /cric/?
Who /PROGRESSIVEROCKOFSPORTS/ here?
>>67734291
To me, cricket is insanely unique and all of the uniqueness in it is in Test cricket and only test cricket. ODIs are this lame middle ground that honestly manage to be even worse than T20s at times. If you want wild swinging for the hills and bowlers deceiving batsmen with pace, watch baseball. Seriously, there is basically no difference between T20 and baseball. You want ""tight finishes"" watch basketball. T20 is an attempt to make cricket like every other sport on the planet and it sucks all of the things that make it unique and beautiful out of it. Imagine if golf made all the holes 2m wide and the courses 3 holes long. Imagine if tennis changed scoring to first to 10 rally wins is the winner. Imagine if rugby removed the penalty goal. Cricket shouldn't be about explosions and cheerleaders, because there are so many other sports that do that stuff so much better. Cricket is about tea and strike rates of 42 and leaving the ball and Alastair Cook and seam positions and how many slips you need and complex fluid dynamics. That's why I like it. And for the record, I'm not an old fart. I'm 19.

>The progression of Katatonia over their ten studio albums has been one of the most consistently gradual shifts in sound from any band I know. While it’s evident that their doom metal focused early material differs greatly from the alt-metal angst of the early 2000’s or the atmospheric mood rock of their recent material, it seems that with each album the band just push ever-so-slightly in one direction, it’s never in leaps or bounds. A new Katatonia album always brings comments of “man, they never seem to change at all”, yet it is the minuscule changes that contribute to a discography-long evolution, and The Fall of Hearts, in its own tiny little ways, contributes to this movement.

We've been over this. I don't agree with the Exec Co part of the big 3 but I don't have a problem with how they are distributing money. The one good thing Srinivasan did as well was arrange more Indian tours to places like Zimzam, Windies and Poo Peeland.

No it doesn't you fuckwit it's about furthering your understanding of a topic. Taking pride in not knowing something is a trait of an unintelligent person. Do people who study literature or art history do it because they're insecure? Are you really that fucking stupid to believe that the pursuit of understanding makes you insecure?
Doesn't it fascinate you as to WHY you like these vibrations? Does nothing in the universe prompt you to learn? Understanding one's thoughts on a topic, ESPECIALLY something that is as difficult to put words to as musical taste, is actually really interesting if you get into it. Saying "I like it because I like it" is the equivalent of saying "I have no personal thought and I am proud of that". Even the most basic of normies can still (occasionally) explain why they like things, even if it is as basic as "I like explosions and big boobs"

I'm definitely not autistic enough to bother with a "poosonality". I don't generally post here that frequently though either, I do /lit/ and /rug/.
I'm currently pushing through some historical books on the Duke of Wellington and Napoleon. Reasonably interesting shit. I've also been reading a lot of really campy space opera because it's moderately entertaining, mostly Peter F Hamilton. I really want to like a lot of sci-fi but I feel that no seriously good authors attempt to write it because they don't take it seriously. Hamilton is solid but he's still got a lot of classic modern sci-fi traits in that he writes too much plot and not enough characterisation or development of broad concepts.
Why Russian though? Surely there are better meme languages to learn.

Hmm okay. Most newfags we send straight to the IPL because real cricket is too slow or autistic for them to cope but if you don't have a short attention span you may be able to deal with it. This match may be a bit boring from now on because England have an enormous lead and the rest of the game will be really just waiting for Sri Lanka to lose, but watch it if you want. Yesterday was probably the best day to see. Starts in 2.5 bings.
The IPL is also on but I have no idea what's happening with it. I think finals are soon. Probably watch Bangalore or whatever they are because they have a pretty stacked lineup.

Kinda. Remember that there are different forms of cricket. In proper cricket there are only 6 actually good teams (Sri Lanka too at a push), but in white ball cricket there are a few more (because it's easier, but that also makes it less good to watch)
Go read some posts on reddit that explain it or something, I'm sure someone's done it better than I can. But please watch our sport, anything to outnumber the ACBs more.

I started learning Russian when I was in high school because I was autistically obsessed with Russian history and wanted to access primary sources. I also dabbled with talking to qt's on interpals but that was lame and I never got into it. After that I took it as electives at university because I had a massive head start on everyone else which meant it was ez marks and developed it as a hobby more than anything else.
It also looked good on my CV.
>Surely there are better meme languages to learn
From an Australian perspective, atleast from a practical POV the best are probably Mandarin, Indonesian and Arabic. Hopefully I will get the chance to learn Arabic in the next couple of years. it will be insanely difficult and intense but awesome at the same time I think.

Are you in a major city?
If so, check your local universities. I'm from Sydney and Sydney Uni has a department called the Centre for Continuing Education which is sort of like a TAFE but less formal in that you aren't assessed or anything, you just turn up to class and learn. They have language classes that start all the time. I'd recommend going to one or two courses (usually about 6 months) so that you can learn the basics. After about 6 months you should be able to start learning on your own quite easily.
>>67734991

thanks. Would you recommend going to a class or something? Is that something that even exists? I feel like it would be easier to learn if you were talking to other people.
>>67735001
Meme cricket's purpose is to introduce new people to the sport. For that it is very good, and without it cricket would be dead. Cricket is pretty different to most people's expectations for sport so the brevity and "excitement" of T20 is a good stepping stone.
But if you've been watching cricket for more than a year and still prefer meme cricket you should kill yourself.

Test cricket really requires an intimate understanding of the game to enjoy, but I don't think that stops someone from moving into it from ODI games, which are fairly accessible in their own right.
I'm not sure about this T20 gateway meme to be entirely honest. It's a radically different game to both other forms of the game. The only ""tactics"" it involves are wide yorkers and fitting as many guys on the boundary as you can. With ODI games you don't see that kind of shit until the 40th over when the batting side is going at 8 runs an over or some shit.

The thing about T20 """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""tactics""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" is that they are always praised posthumously.
>commentator says MSDOS=genius because he did x or David Warner won the game because he did y
it's nothing more than reactionary praise. With Twenty20 you can't actually sit down and talking about cricketing philosophies or talking about what particular tactics work in what situation. It's literally just
>batsman: slog every ball
>bowler: try to stop batsman slogging you every ball
Everything that happens beyond that point is just luck. I gamble quite alot on Test and ODI cricket and am very profitable with it because you can be sure to a reasonable extent that the better team will win because those sports have quite large skill gaps so all you need to do is correctly judge which team is better.
But Twenty20 is literally just luckswing. There's almost no such thing as upsets. Just about any professional team can beat any other professional team.
This type of sport has its positives. it's good for women and children and introducing casuals to the sport. it's good for a cheap thrill.
But twenty20 has the tactical depth of a puddle and it triggers the fuck out of me when you suggest otherwise

I mean look at Kohli, the dude is literally putting Alastair Cook levels of concentration into his statpadding.

>>67735813

>>67735759
Don't mistake tactics for skill.
To be a great t20 player still requires insane levels of skill. Kohli, de Villiers and Warner are far and away the best T20 batsmen in the world and that is because all three of them are insanely talented.
Arguably, being a world-class t20 cricketer requires more talent than Test cricket. You can be a world-class Test cricketer as long as you have the right mental attributes even if you have limited talent. See: Alastair Cook. I doubt many people would say he is super talented but he autistically does a couple of things well that makes him really good at the sport. Kohli, ABdV and Warner clearly have far more talent than him.

Cricket is so traditional, that people just have their head in the sand.
The fact the each day of the Hobart Test drew no more than 6,000 people doens't seem to matter, to these people that have never bothered to think outside the square.
The facts are the outside Australia and England (lets face it outside of Boxing day really) people don't attend, watch or care about the long form of the game.
Shield matches are attended by two men and a dog. It's true. Deal with it. No one goes.
Why does no one go? Why? Because people are not interestd in watching a 4-day game played over 24 hours. You can't market that in Australia, let alone to a non-cricket playing country.
If T20 was jsut "cricket" and it was the only way it had even been for 150 years, we would have a fabulous thriving domestic summer sport, instead of the crap we've had for 100 years where we essentially have two international teams playing against each other for the whole summer, with no "end point" of "Grand Final" or season culmination to aspire to. Who wants to watch that? There is no point or meaning to it.
Dealing with cricket traditionalists is a bit like dealing with religious fundamentalists. They have their head stuck in the snad and have never been able to "think outside the square" about how cricket should have always been played.
I know I'm right, and over the next couple of decades, you will see that for yourselves. If you want to continue following Shield matches that no one cares about, in front of 200 people or test matches in front of 4,000 people per day, then do it. The rest of the country will be following the true form of cricket (T20) that should have bene the way cricket was invented 150 years ago. That's the game we play in schools and backyards and on the street. Only about 60 living Australians have ever played a 5 day game.

>>67736125
He picked my posts correctly. Both were mine.
>>67736089
Alright I'm going to bite.
Yes I think Rahane is great. I also think Kohli is great. I think Kohli is better than Rahane though. Again you are correct, I never thought the manlet could cut it and I was literally right, his career was ended because he overworked himself and blew his heart up.
MacGill was also great but Warne was at another level. Laxman played more memorable innings against Australia but Sachin is obviously better.
>>67736161
Based statscunt. Did you finally get around to revealing yourself to Daniel?
>>67736092
Also
>buttler is a far better striker of the ball, probably a better hitter than anyone bar AB
aka "I watch nothing except England ODIs and AB de Villiers webms on reddit". Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell and Martin Guptill exist. All of them hit the ball cleaner and better than Swattler.
>>67736148
I live in the north west and it's raining here, wind will blow it towards headingley. will probably start just after lunch desu
>>67736125
Woops midread the thread. Yeah you were right he got it wrong.
>>67736173
I'm in Wellington, boyfriend.
No need to interact with Daniel, he's found himself another echo chamber in reddit - one that's actually retarded enough to celebrate his autistic drivel about tests and t20.
This doesn't fit the narrative though. Statscunt was never a t20 apologist.
>>67736172
no they weren't you lying piece of shit, stop trying to steal my truth bombs
>>67736203
statscunt developed it at the end of last year since it's the only format Poo Peeland can reliably beat Australia in and Adam Voges doesn't play it
>>67736203
Nah, you're right. It doesn't fit your precious e-narrative. I'm definitely a test cricket purist chink.
>>67736172
The fact that you dragged yourself out of your hole to validate your opinion shows the unhealthy obsession you have about me, honestly.
>>67736179
le i'm going to mention reddit so everyone knows i have no fucking idea what i'm talking about. buttler is better than any of those 3 you mentioned, for some reason people under-rate him hugely because he's english. we literally beat you in the last white ball series we had, got to the t20 final after smashing you guys in the semis and you have some weird idea this is just a purple patch and we haven't figured out how to play it now
>>67736218
That was shitspouter though wasn't it? He posted throughout the whole of the Aus series about how T20 was "real cricket". Statscunt used to get unironically mad when confronted with the fact that NZ sucks at tests.
Remember he got his "name" by endlessly spouting stats about Kane Williamson's test record.
>>67736221
If Buttler was so good he wouldn't suck dick in the very same tournament Kohli and AB are carving up. Nice average of 35 he's got there.
>>67736207
I was referring to this >>67735949
As for your ""truthbombs"". Rahane is a good t20 player. He has consistently scored runs at an acceptable rate for years. His issue is that he is not on the correct team. Rahane is an accumulator. He has guys like Khawaja and Smith around him in IPL and Rohit and Kohli for India who are also generally accumulators. These are the worst possible partners he could have. He needs memeswinging wallopers like Warner, McCuck or BBC.
Kohli is also a fucking great Test batsman. How can you be so stupid so as to forget Adelaide 2014?
>>67736234
you're right, I'm getting mixed up
>>67736220
>chink
So you're accepting the being half chinese meme now? You used to defiantly deny it.
>>67736251
Piss off you chink poofter
>>67736242
I LITERALLY never said Rahane wasn't a good T20 player
I LITERALLY never said Kholi wasn't a good test batsman. He's just grossly overrated, as is Adelaide 2014. Jason Holder had one incredible knock, but I wouldn't call him "fucking great"
>>67736251
Whatever fits your precious narrative, sugarpuff.
>>67736271
What's your endgame?
Wish the poopeelians would stop ruining /cric/ tttt
>>67736239
His first year in the IPL iirc, there's a learning curve. kohli is a better t20 player than anyone in the world, and de villiers is just better than buttler. unsure how you can claim he's bad when he's shit on your country in white ball cricket desu lad
>>67736284
Ending you.
Watching it rain in England I can't wait for monsoon to arrive 2bh.
>>67736286
Your statscunt impersonation is solid, but stop using it to push your "t20 isn't shit" agenda.
>>67736296
BLOWN THE FUCK OUT
>>67736270
>I LITERALLY never said Kholi wasn't a good test batsman
You said without the faintest hint of irony that Bitchstow is potentially a better Test batsman than Kohli.
Bitchstow is good, but Kohli within 18 months will be considered a world top3 batsman. The fact you think fucking Misbah and Younis are better than Kohli is fucking laughable. I bet you think Thilan fucking Samaraweera and Voges are better than Kohli as well.

>But Gayle is his own worst enemy if this evening’s interview is anything to go by. Before two hours are up, he’s boasting about having “a very, very big bat, the biggest in the wooooorld”, adding, “You think you could lift it? You’d need two hands.” He asks how many black men I’ve “had”, goading me when I deflect the question, and whether I’ve ever had a “t’eesome” – “I bet you have. Tell me.”
>“Do you dye your hair?” he asks at one point. It’s highlighted, I reply. “But do you dye your hair?” >His eyes flick down.
>When I rebuke him, he squawks, lifting his shoulders in ham offence: “But it’s only fair! Why do you get to ask all the questions?”
>Am I letting down the sisterhood by engaging with Gayle, a man who installed a strip club in the basement of his house in Jamaica without telling his girlfriend? A man who, after listening to John Barclay, old Etonian batsman, ex-England manager and former MCC president, hold forth on his sporting record over lunch, was said to have asked, “So, do you get much pussy?”

“It’s a nice experience being a father,” he continues. “But I only had a short stint there. I’m looking forward to seeing her again.”
Many of his team-mates in India have partners, and I think he’s lonely. Last night, he watched English football until the small hours. “They all busy,” he says when I ask if they all go out together.
Will he get married? He says he’s contemplating it, and asks me what I think.
What if she says no? He looks horrified and amused at the same time. “I’ll have to accept it. No is no. I can’t do anything. I can’t force anything down anyone’s throat.”
But, he says, “I’ve accomplished everything else. If there’s one thing left to do, there’s that. But it’s not a big t’ing in Jamaica.” His parents aren’t married. “It’s a different culture.”

Cricket is unironically a sport womyn could be good at because it barely requires any physicality at all and is almost pure skill.
And by 'good' I don't mean competitive with men, I mean creating a competition that is still entertaining in its own right like womens tennis. They are nowhere close to that bit it could happen unlike in say soccer or rugby

>>67737103
Yeah I know, and it doesn't exactly have a massive reputation as a men's only sport. I think Ireland's cricket board unironically see it as a way into the elite realm because they can quite easily become top 5 in womyn by beating all the literally godawful bongladesh/sri lankan women. If they're top few in women the ICC might finally listen and give their men more games
I also see that >we're playing them in some pyjama cricket huh didn't know that. I mean it'll be godawful but good for them I suppose.

Speaking of womyns cricket, there was a mention of this chick on the book of face today and I did a bit of reading into her, it's pretty sad.
She retired from all cricket age 28 to pursue a career in commentating, because she knew that if she waited any longer she wouldn't be able to make it in commentating with her looks (if she waited until 36 like Charlotte Edwards she'd be old and no one would hire her). She currently commentates the IPL. It's pretty sad that she can make far more as a cricket commentator than a cricketer and had to cut her career short to do that but there are obviously legit reasons for that.
Her record is decent actually, but you never really know how good they actually are with women's cricket. I also read that some other english woman cricketer retired at like 25 to take up an admin position with the ICC.

Can you imagine what it must feel like to be a batsman walking out to meet Broad and Anderson, in England, under a cloudy sky? I don't envy them. It's truly amazing though as AN England fan. In the 90's and early 00's it seemed like we were stuck with mediocre bowling in comparison to the Aus team at the time. How things have changed!
>>67737363
Not really, 90s we had Gough and Caddick and then early 00's we had Hoggard, Harmison, Flintoff, Jones etc. It was never the opening bowling that was the problem in those times.
