The only two genuinely top NRL players who have switched to Rugby in recent years have been Sunni Bill and Israel Folau. I think it's fair to say that both of those guys have been successes. Surgess went as well but he isn't in the class of those other two guys and they didn't know what position to play him as.
I have no doubt if you took an Inglis at his prime and played him as an outside back he'd be an instant success. I doubt Inglis even earns AUS$1million. Kurtley fucking Beale was offered AUS$1.5M by an English club.
I think the European clubs just haven't been scouting the NRL. The top players would transition as backs no problem. There is plenty of talent in the NRL, always has been. The ARU just can't touch it because they are poor as fuck. They only got Folau because the NRL fucked up with salary cap red-tape.
