Leafs can succeed financially without winning. This is the problem with all the Canadian teams. THe marketing has been ramped up to impressive levels and stolen "support your team even if they suck shit meme" from european soccer. 10 years ago people in the stands wearing a jersey were the scattered minority. Now they are nearly 80% or more.
Somehow franchises have made it """cool""" to be bad, it's an integral part of their culture

There are plenty more but they have convinced fans that it's okay for their team to be total shit year in and year out.
When you think about it, historically the Leafs should be the Canadiens, with Cups literally falling from their behinds. But no.
