I imagine he just used it as a descriptive term. If he'd said 'Oi, person of Japanese origin, walk on' we wouldn't be having this conversation, even though it's fundamentally the same.

That's the whole point about the ey Jap incident. It's not necessarily racist to call a Japanese Jap even if they are in fact Japanese. What is racist is to call nicknames to people that you don't personally know (even if they are true). It's more about being "civilised " and "polite" rather than a racial thing.

Without this moment I am sure Okazaki would never have scored his overhead kick against Newcastle and Leicester would not be champions, just as without the Bomb Hiroshima would just be a shitty little feudal fishing village and not a thriving metropolis.
