The bullpen has been a dumpster fire all year and 80% of the reason they've lost most of these games. Cecil and Storen have blown a large part of games. Floyd, Chavez and Biagini have been okay.

For example:
Pitcher A gives up single, single, 3-run homer = 3 runs
Pitcher B gives up homer, single, single = 1 run
FIP says that the performances of these two pitchers are identical. ERA says that one is much worse than the other, just because the same events happened in a different order.
In your scenario, a pitcher gives up 9 hits in 7 innings.
Just as it's possible that those 9 hits resulted in 5 runs, it's also possible they were scattered in a way that resulted in 0 runs.
In other words:
Pitcher A: 7 IP, 5 K, 0 BB, 9 H, 5 ER
Pitcher B: 7 IP, 5 K, 0 BB, 9 H, 0 ER
The basic difference is that FIP says, based on a purely individual performance level, pitcher A and pitcher B were very similar.
That makes sense to me, but I could definitely see how people would think pitcher B was much better, even though identical things happened in each game, except in different orders.
That's why I think FIP has value, because it doesn't heavily weigh bad innings, unfortunate sequences of events, etc.

FIP fucking records a strikeout as + for the Pitcher, a beneficial value for them.
It fucking shouldn't be. It should be a standard thing for the pitcher to get by. I think a pitcher should be penalized for every strikeout they don't get (i.e. every hit they allow).
The FIP just calculates values too far in favor of the pitcher.
