Not true, once Philbin got thrown out the pass rush instantly improved. Now we have an actual coach and not just some guy. Mario is also pretty fucking good.

If it wasn't for Denver, Cleveland would've ruled the AFC three times in the 80's. Four if you count Red Right 88 never happening.

Also, we fucked your shit up in the 50's and once in the 60's. Fuck outta here. Four NFL Championships and the best running back of his time in Jim Brown.

I'm pretty sure many people consider Babe Ruth to be the GOAT.

And I don't think anyone is claiming that the Browns haven't been pathetic af in the last couple of decades, but saying shit from the 50s doesn't count is just retarded.
>>

Babe Ruth is a player. The Browns are a franchise. A more accurate analogy would be if a player won 3 straight MVPs and then hit .150 the next 20 years while somehow staying in the league.

Also football was a lot less competitive in the '50s

I still don't know how the Broncos not only won the division but the fucking Super Bowl too.

The defense was good, but that offense was one of the worst ever. Overall they were probably one of the worst teams to ever win a playoff game, let alone the Super Bowl.
>>
>>67434359
They had the best defense of the modern era and a middle of the pack offense.

They really weren't as bad as you seem to think.
>>
>>67434367
The only way they were middle of the pack offensively is if you're including Division 1A in the data.

Seattle's defense from two years ago was better too.

Shit, just in the last 10 years (off the top of my head) 3 shittier teams have reached the owl (cards, nyg x2), and 2 of them won it.

I see a lot of people argue over whether or not the Browns truly are a shit franchise. A lot of people call them new since the old browns team became the Ravens in 1996 and a new Cleveland Browns formed in 1999.

http://www.strawpoll.me/10158580
>>
>>67434384
No they weren't. You have to understand Denver's offense turned the ball over far, far more than Seattle's did that year. Denver had a below average offense mainly because of the turnovers. Their yards are still middle of the pack.
>>
>>67434414

QB play strongly correlates to team success, but it's not a given one will follow the other. For example, Manning may be the shittiest QB to win an owl, but he's far from the ONLY shitty QB to win an owl.

>>67434491
The Bucs are an invalid sample. The only reason they won that game was because their head coach literally wrote the playbook the opposing team was using, and the new coach didn't change anything.

After five black players appeared in NFL games during the 1926 season, the number of African-Americans in the league declined to between one and two each season until Lillard entered the league. He was the lone African-American playing in the NFL in 1932 and one of two in 1933;[31] the other was Ray Kemp, a tackle with the Pirates.[32] Following the 1933 season, an unofficial gentlemen's agreement was reached between the NFL's owners not to employ African-American players. Incoming segregationist Boston Redskins owner George Preston Marshall was thought to have been behind the agreement.[33] After the introduction of an unofficial color line, no African-American played in the NFL until 1946, when Kenny Washington and Woody Strode joined the Los Angeles Rams.[32] Author Charles Ross wrote that "NFL owners may have used Lillard's volatile personality as an excuse to ban other black athletes."[34]

Eh, he was 6th in sack% last year, 2nd if you take out dual-threat QBs. That's pretty bad. And his INT:sack ratio was normal. Beyond that, though, who on the Jags OL last year was above average? Should have specified an "OFFICIAL policy," but I'll concede that I didn't know the extent of it.

Well, he did start on the 0-16 lions, and thats a bullshit argument anyways. Fortunately sometimes a good qb is all you need to win an owl.

Matthew Stafford is the biggest tease the NFL has had since fucking Vince Young. He can't read a fucking defense and is still no better than league average despite being a 7-year vet and the Lions constantly loading up the offense with as many big money players and high level picks as they possibly can. Not saying he hasn't let us down, but hasnt really ever had a complete team to work with. Always some glaring weakness the management misses which totally fucks the team over, like literally no run game or one of the worst o lines (which made it near impossible last season to do his job when he's running for his life 2 seconds after the ball is snapped) in the NFL. An elite qb might be able to overcome those, but at least he's a hell of a lot tougher now, his first couple seasons he was injured a shit ton. Is there any qb we could've picked up in the past 7 years that would have been better?
