I really just think there's been a shift in mentality between the positions since Nonu changed what 12 meant. It was always that the first two guys on the backline were playmakers and skinny white guys with game knowledge, now it seems that it's only the first guy, and the second two are big barging centres to crash through the line. And because of this change everyone seems to think that there's a closer link between 10 and 15 than 10 and 12. I don't understand why the chiefs didn't put smug at 12. Sure, fullback was where they had a bigger gap, but I feel like 12 is the place where someone like Barrett or Slade should have been (if Nonu didn't exist). Hockey I don't really get. I watched a couple of games when I was snowboarding in Canada (go Vernon Vipers!) but when you're streaming it I find it really hard to follow - you can't really see where the puck is, but I guess it's kind of exciting.
I will basically watch any sport, but the only sport I follow is rugby.

I get that issue with following the puck, I got lucky that the team I started following back in october was a decent team so I get decent gamethreads for them.
Attending games is defintely different though, my local team is a mediocre british team but even they have a dedicated fanbase that makes the games worth it

I disagree entirely. I've never seen a professional sport that's as messy as AFL.
The whole game just devolves in to a scramble of people trying to pick up a ball and failing. I also don't like that any sniff of a fair, hard tackle is a penalty in AFL.

all i know is that tacklings how you describe it, but the point of tackling is to stop the other person (as it is in any other game). Except you stop the other player from getting rid of the ball, the game just goes to a random ball up, so all the defenders effort goes to nothing
