>Self already off the pace
I know this isn't a cup thread but whatever. There are
>6 short track races
>6 1 mile
>4 plate
>2 road course
>1 Darlington
That leaves 17 high downforce ovals on the fucking schedule. That number should be cut in about half. Adding 3-4 short tracks, 3-4 1 milers, and 2 road courses.
The chase is a complete and utter meme and if you disagree, kill yourself. I am not married to any specific points system but the entire season should count equally. I also believe points should stop counting once you reach midfield (20th is perfect to me). There are two reasons for that. First, let's say you hit the wall and limp around the rest of the race and finish 28th. A second driver blows a motor and finishes 39th. That's an 11 point swing, for perspective that's the same difference between 3rd and 14th. Second, with this points system there's no reason to leave damaged slow cars on the track several laps down. Many people want winning to have a high incentive and I'm pretty neutral on that. The winner getting 25 points and 2nd getting 19 seems reasonable. Points would drop by one until you reached 20th getting 1 point. The rest of the field would also get one point.
Drop the distinction between drivers and owner points. If a driver is injured, another driver can drive that car with no repercussions. This of course would need to be policed as to not allow gaming of the system such as road course or plate race ringers.

>>67398553
Damn. That's nice. Someone told me they were struggling. I haven't had a chance to see an F1 race yet this year.
Romain Grosjean is a great driver. I'm glad he got the job after Lotus died.
I think it's cool that Gene Haas is doing well early on in Formula 1, but it'd be so much better if he brings up some American drivers to race his cars.
>>67398495

>>67398897
Top kek. There are many nascar drivers that could race in F1. Why is everyone so fucking pretentious when it comes to F1? Half the drivers are shitty pay drivers anyway.
I bet somebody like Kyle Busch or Logano would be a beast in an F1 car after you gave them a little time to learn whats up.
>>67398821
Realistically, which American drivers could race in F1? Josef Newgarden? Sam Hornish? Ehhh.
AJ Dinger says he won't race open cockpits anymore. Kurt Busch races too aggressively for open wheel cars.
We do not have a good American driver right now. If Haas starts developing a young American now, it'll be five years before he can work his way up to F1.
>>67399097
Well yea in the future then. But I think you could bring a lot of American fans to F1 if we homegrow some drivers with Haas. I'm sure Gene is on it tho.

Also I agree. Formula 1 is for smelly Europeans and sucks ass in reality. If I wanted to watch a soap opera I would watch one. If I want to watch racing I'll turn on some real racin, like NASCAR or Indycar.
>>67399129
I forgot he wasn't Italian or something.
>>67399156
its like that nationwide race at road america where cars kept breaking down and the caution was ~50 minutes
>>67399210
So Brad is the ultimate judge of NASCAR talent? What qualifies him to be the judge of this? I bet most other drivers disagree.
>>67399053
Well for one thing all the F1 drivers are twinkboys. Weight is a huge deal in F1. So they would all have to lose a ton of weight.
Second of all it's a totally diffferent discipline. People like Kybu or Logano might do well, but not without going up the ladder of FR3.5 and GP2 for at least a season each.
The best pure racing talent in NASCAR is a good question tho.
I think you have to look at both Penske bros, especially Brad. He has 4 Dega wins, is always good on cookie cutters, and is maybe the best road racer in the Sprint Cup right now.
Obviously Kyle since he can race anything anywhere, and Kurt to a somewhat lesser extent. Jimmie and Carl in the conversation. Harv can wheel it.
Some real stupid driving here tonight
>>67399218
>Indycar.
Indy is a better series than F1, by far....
>>67399240
I never said he was the ultimate judge, just that to a NASCAR champion Carl is super talented. And he obviously is.
I think I'd take Brad and Kyle as my 1a 1b.
>>67399178
kek the one true answer
Did they seriously just throw a caution so they could redo the restart? Why? Peters have up the spot. The issue resolved itself.
>>67399258
My vote goes for KyBu or KuBu, though its really hard to say.
I think there are really 5 or 6 guys who are equally good at the top of the list. KyBu, KuBu, Johnson, Brad, Edwards, and maybe Harvick.
>>67399290

That nigger is a beast.
How many times have we seen him start from the back and work his way to the front? That dude is not only a great driver, but he's also a great communicator with his team, and that allows them to improve his cars throughout the entire race, giving him a chance to win damn near every weak.
>>67399320
>week*
>>67399258
As much as I dislike him, I've long felt that Kyle was the most gifted driver in terms of pure pace/car control. The man likes his setups notoriously free. I don't know how he does it.
That said, imagine a timeline where Harv didn't wallow at a struggling RCR for so many years.

I have no idea who these kids are up front. I hope they can hold off Bowyer.
Thank god Crafton and Peters fell back. They are both such insufferable douches. The third douche in this series is Sauter.
>>67399362
it's true. I'm not saying Harv is on Dale's level, but it's become clear over time that RCR lucked into a couple of elite-tier talents: one that built the organization, and one that pretty much singlehandedly kept it afloat when it all damn near fell apart in 2001.

Here is the deal.
>someone spins
>dudes behind it literally go wide open and guess a lane
>these are truck series drivers who aren't the greatest
>NASCAR would rather they not try to go wide open and dodge the truck sliding across the track
So you throw a caution whenever someone is spinning on the track so drivers KNOW that if they get out of the gas for safety they won't get fucked by it staying green.
This isn't a NASCAR thing, this is what the drivers want fampai.

NASCAR executives love wrecks. The Driver's Council are who have brought on the new safety measures.
A year or two ago Brad got creamed in a Busch race when someone way behind the wreck was wide open and not good enough to not hit Brad. It started a lot of conversations with the drivers and that isn't something they want.
If someone is spinning out the drivers would rather you not hold it down and pick a line, they'd rather you slow the fuck down and not lose your spot since caution freezes field.
This lil nigga looks like he's about to pass out
...he didn't start racing until he was FOURTEEN?!?!?!?!?

Sauter was trying to break the draft so hard he fucked up his entry. I don't know that he was blocking so much as he gave up so much speed getting in that when he got there Rhodes was there.
Sauter is a fucking idiot for being that dumb on the straightaway, but Rhodes didn't do anything wrong. The bottom was there and he got there first.
