He has like what? 165 CA? That's barely what Ward Prowse reaches in 3 years. He needs much better defensive abilities, much better mentals, as well as better balance.

Director of Football handles contract things and signings, management handles staff signings, all you can/have to do is make the most of what your club hands to you.
This would make for an interesting save imo, because you cannot change the squad to your liking - you wont be able to play the formation you want, but the formation that the squad you are given dictates. You wont be able to easymode your club to growing by simply buying decent young players and waiting for a few years for them to improve, you'll actually have to achieve the impossible and get promoted/make EL or whatever with a shit tier squad.
It would also make a journeyman save much more interesting - you'd actually have an incentive to switch clubs, not because you're "done" at your club but because you can switch to a club with a signing philosophy that you like more, with a squad that you find more balanced, or with ambitions that match yours.

Don't bother signing players from these clubs. The only way for them to be interested is if they're from the same country as your club and your club happens to be big deal in that country (and plays European football, it helps).
Pic related for example: he'd join easily since I'm in a Yugo club. Farca might not want to sell him but you could unsettle him fairly easily by sending bids and saying you're interested in the press and wait for him to ask for a transfer. That's how I got my current GK.

i sold one of my star players to PSG for 60m because he was unhappy about squad depth (i was bringing through some youth)
now he has played one game since joining them
that goes for a few others ive sold, one guy got 20-30 games a season, sold him for 15m because he was whining about not enough games now plays less games for arsenal and in their reserves most of the time
but they never seem to get unhappy? i mean i've forced moves for players using the declare interest thing and bidding a decent amount (i wanted a man city player, bid 80m and they wanted like 180m but declared interest, got him unhappy etc etc and ended up getting him for 60m) but some of it is just dumb
especially when they seem to be happy staying at a small club and just sign a new contract or a contract without a clause
Anyone willingly let their team quality drop for youngsters? Things like selling a 29 year old great striker and replacing him with an 18 year old potential GOAT? Like you suffer in the short term as he only bags 15 goals or so in the first season.
