99% of Castilian trash supports Real Madrid and can't even name their local team.
Same applies to Murcia, Cantabria, most of Galicia.

For decades they were the unofficial Spanish national team. And that won't go away easily.

Peten is a huge jungle, the only thing that is there is Mayan ruins, Howler Monkeys and narcos.
The Departments directly underneath it are pretty well populated but also extremely poor so they don't have much staying power. In any case I'm pretty sure Xinabajul is going to get promoted one of these days.

It's the same in most countries.

In the UK until recently most teams were from North West, North East, Midlands and London.

The south west is a total dead zone when it comes to sport

It comes down to the sporting culture of certain areas. In some places sport in general either didn't catch on, or a different sport did.

Places like Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds have been great football cities. Yet cities like Bristol have always been utter shit

Portimonense (from Portimão), might get the promotion this season, but no one plays in that stadium, only if big teams (Sporting and Benfica) go play against a team from the Algarve or some cup final. The stadium is in bumfuck nowhere, only way to get there is by car.

it's very concentrated in the North, as is the popoulation
we have 10/20 regions without a top division teams, 5 of which (Molise, Basilicata, T-AA and VdA) never had one
Marche, Umbria haven't had one for a pretty long time and there is no change in sight (unless Ternana or Perugia pull a miracle) while Calabria will have a debutant next season (Crotone) quite some years after their last team, Reggina

all in all it follows the distribution of wealth and popoulation accordingly

Pretty weird distribution this year. Historically the parts north of Stockholm have zero or one team in the league (northern 2/3 of Sweden has 1/9 of the population).
