The NHL has too many teams. Talent is very spread out, so we have "parity" where most teams are shit.
The wongs managed to have absurdly good goaltending when they weren't scoring, and then they did a decent job scoring when their goaltending was bad. I'm not sure how they did so well when Tatar and Nyquist were invisible most of the season, or how they continue to limp along with the worst defense in the league, but then again their competition in the east includes the laffs, buffalo, the hasb, and a team that perennially blows up at the finish line.

Hartman = at best a bottom 6 forward
McNeil = 4th line center
Dahlstrom = at best a bottom pairing dman
Motte = potentially top 6 forward but manlet
Schmaltz = potential top 6 forward but so far his stats have been pumped by Boeser and Caggiula
Hawks are going to struggle unless they start bringing in prospects to fill holes in their top 6. Bowman has been basically selling off prospects to keep this team contending and it is going to bite him in the ass very soon. One of the core players should be traded this offseason to bring in some young talent. Maybe Seabrook or Hjalmarsson, or if they want to make a really big slash, Kane. I'm not sure if those players can even be moved because of NTC's and NMC's. They might just need to keep looking in FA to fix their shit up.
