If you watch basketball you know this

12:30 here, watched the Hornets game, then the Warriors, then Kobe's finale. Took me to about 8am then I finished my beers and now I'm back on here.
Don't feel tired and I know if I go to bed I'll fuck my sleep pattern up so I'm just going to push on through until tonight.
On a side note, did anyone watch the Timberwolves game? 144 points? I'll probably watch it later but what the fuck happened here? I mean New Orleans are garbage but I reckon the Timberwolves could be big in a couple of seasons time with some maturity.
>>66811743
I personally think LeBron is better, although it's very close.
LeBron is better in points, FG%, rebounds, assists, clutch shots and PER.
Kobe has more actual accolades (More rings, more 60+ games etc. and while I think it's hard to choose between them, I have to say LeBron takes the edge. I don't mean to take anything away from Kobe, but certain things, like the 81 point game, doesn't particularly impress me as much as his other achievements. 60% from the field is pretty good, but you can't deny he got fed the ball the entire night because the rest of the team were pish poor. Keeping up that consistency throughout 81 points though is fairly impressive, but the sheer number itself doesn't really make a huge difference to me.
>>66812993
It's too bad triple doubles have nothing to do with being a good player. He's easily bottom 3rd of the league at his position

Fact: Westbrook is not averaging a triple double
The end
Last night was the perfect Kobe send off. He was never the most efficient. But what you knew he could do is score above the league average even if he had five guys on him. 22-50 is impressive from any player - chucking that much is extremely tiring - and especially so from one who's body has been failing him for years now. He also broke a record in a career where he's broken records. And 60 points from him now, that's impressive, even if the Jazz wanted to let him score a few.
>>66813776
Dumb cunt, he's telling you it's impossible fur to the differences in eras and rule changes. If someone were to average a triple double now, even if it was only 10 in each field, it would low Oscar out of the water relatively. Even Westbrook right now blows Oscar out of the water relatively
>>66813897

>>66813905

>>66813929

>>66813897
Why thought? Assists were harder to come by in Oscar's era. Rebounds were easier to get and there were more of them, relative to today, but rebounding guards were not really very common and most guards would not have went for large rebounding numbers just like most guards today run back on defense instead of crashing the offensive glass or get out on the fast break instead of crashing the defensive glass.
I think due to TALENT parity, it would be much harded to avg. a triple double today. The rules and playstyles have actually made it somewhat easier, though.

what % of NBA players could get 60 points if they were allowed to take 50 shots and 12 foul shots. PRO TIP: at least half of them.
>>66813945
Rebounds come from missed shots and mostly from jumping for them while in the air and not around a center or out jumping a center. Not directly fighting on the boards. Assists never changed in ease but only based on team play style and the bucks at the time depended on assist from the guards.
It is harder to average a triple dub today but not because of some talent parity but because of the difference in the game with zone defense, taking time to set complex plays to create openings instead of constant fastbreaks, and now it's all about effecient shooting, lowering the need for rebounding if the opponent is hitting their shots constantly and not missing them, at least against GS.

how the fuck is lebron a better scorer than kobe god damn bryant? just because lebrons FG% is better because he drives to the hoop on every possession, doesn't make him a better scorer. let's not forget he's in the BOTTOM 5 of shooting percentage away from the basket this year.
lebron might be a "better" rebounder, but not really. he only averages 2 more per game, despite being a forward and kobe being a guard. not a huge differential there.
kobe was first all-team defense for 9 years, and 2nd team for 3 years. no question he's the better defender
lebron might put up MORE assists, but that does not make them BETTER. the greats knew when it was time to stop passing and take the game over. that's the difference between 5/6 championships and being 2-4. lebron passes TOO much. with that being said, kobe still averaged 5 assists a game.
let's not even mention that kobe had the much stiffer competition en-route to his 5 rings. lebron's prime was while the east was the worst it's been since 1960. that's before the fucking merger.
having a 25/5/5 career with 5 rings and being a better defender > 27/7/7 with a .333 winning percentage in the finals, and being the poster-boy for choking.

A fact about the 72-10 record.

Dell Curry basically helped his son beat the Bulls record 20 years ago.

It was an unsustainable effort by the vastly outclassed and outgunned Cavs bench who had yet to be completely alienated by LeBron James shit tier playstyle, combined with home court reffing advantage and Curry's lone bad game of the playoffs. The Warriors were never threatened or outmatched or beaten at any point in the series and each successive game was more and more of a struggle for The Cavs who slowly realized James was both shooting them out of possessions and games and alienating his teammates, whose names he certainly didn't know.

It was a combination of everything. Iggy was actually really liked on that Nugs team, and it was great fun to watch, with Ty, Gallo and even McGee going crazy. There was being unbeatable at the Mile High City, there was the 55 win season which the fans thought might have been a far gone conclusion after Melo left.
Then they got the one team in the playoffs that they didn't want, that they didn't match up well with. But it was fine, they should still win.
But then Iggy decided that the Bay was more fun to live in than Colorado, and sold out the team's tactics to GSW, then left the team to GSW. It was the start of GSW ascendancy which has resulted in their current success, and the start of the Nuggets decline which they are just coming out of. If Iggy didn't fuck shit up, GSW might not have been as patient with Curry. Iggy could be seen as a cause of GSW today.
I don't hate him for that though. I hate him for breaking up the team and leaving the Nuggets in limbo for two years.

LeBron James finished the 2015 NBA Finals with averages of 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game.
LeBron James is the first player in NBA Finals history to lead both teams in points, assists and rebounds for the entire series.
Without James on the floor, Cleveland’s field goal percentage dropped for 40% to 17%, and it’s offensive efficiency fell from 97.3 to 50.9.
According to Tom Haberstroh of ESPN, James accounted for 38.3% of Cleveland's points in the Finals, the second-highest percentage of team points in Finals history. He is edged only by Michael Jordan scoring 38.4% of the Bulls' points in the 1993 Finals, which Chicago won.
He was responsible for an average of 57.7 points per game on points he either scored or assisted on; which in turn, accounted for 62% of the Cavaliers’s points in the NBA Finals.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, by pulling the Elo Ratings for each team to make the NBA Finals before the series began, and taking into account a team’s home-court advantage, it was able to project each team’s chances of winning prior to the Finals. What was discovered was that James’ teams had the lowest expected winning percentage — 37% — out of any of the other players on this list. If you consider that James still managed to win two titles with those odds stacked against him, the four losses don’t seem so terrible. And if we look at the 2015 Finals by itself, we’ll realize that James did was pretty much unprecedented.
“If we look at a multi-year Statistical Plus/Minus talent projection for every NBA Finals team, this Cavs team ranks as the ninth-least talented NBA finalist since 1985. (By contrast, Cleveland’s opponents, the mighty Golden State Warriors, rank as the 14th-most talented.) Remove James, and things get even more dire; his supporting cast ranks as the third-worst team carried by its best player to the NBA Finals since 1985.”

If you were to take James’s talent rating (6.6) and replace it with that of the league-average player (0.0), the Cavaliers’s talent rating would dwindle to -0.1. So what the King ended up doing was carrying one of the three-worst supporting casts in NBA history to within two games of a championship. Of course, what we forgot to mention was that FiveThirtyEight also determined that these Golden State Warriors finished the year with the second-highest peak Elo Rating (1822) in NBA history and third-highest Composite Elo Rating of all time (1796), making them one of the best basketball teams ever. And what James did against them remarkable.
When LeBron was NOT on the floor, JR Smith, Matthew Dellavedova, James Jones and Iman Shumpert DID NOT MAKE A SHOT in the NBA Finals
Without LeBron James on the floor this series.

nothing at all compared to the lebron hype. And kobe went fucking 13th, fuck off with that shit.
>>66817474
the effort might have been unsustainable but this is easy to say with hindsight. I would accept the 'no hope' argument if the series had ended 4-0.
at any rate, the original point was that even a decimated team like the Cavs did put some pressure on GSW. Clippers, SAS and the Cavs with their full roster will all be able to put up more resistance in these playoffs IMO.
>>66817652
sorry, *4 times

I think you underage faggots don't realize that Shaq carried the Magic to the finals when he was still fresh into the league
>>66817652
>It's about winning the damn thing, not some plastic award after the win, which Lebron hasn't been able to do twice.
Lebron won in the Finals twice and won Finals MVP both times, Shaq won Finals MVP three times
For the majority of Kobe's championships he was not the best player on his team
>>66817650

>>66817672

>Kobe can't win it half the time he goes to the Finals
Clearly demonstrates Shaq is not only a superior player but carried Kobe to multiple titles
>>66817650
How many 60 and 80 point games? You know, something that isn't a subjective award swayed by non objective factors by the oh so trustful and completely subjective media

>>66817656
Yeah lebron was hyped up way way more, don't act like kobe wasn't tho. And I'm talking more about how espn hyped them up during thir careers, not the draft
Also, I guarantee if kobe went to 1 year of college he'd be first overall the next season. Him being in high school scared tons of gms. He was shitting on pros at his workouts. That's how good kobe was coming out of high school. A lot of teams were considering taking him in the top 7 or 8 but didn't have the guts to take a high schooler one year after a sort of mediocre Kevin garnett campaign

Lebron also lost 4 times in the finals, and Kobe has won it 5 times. Just because Kobe wasn't the "best player on the team" does not diminish the fact that he was one of the biggest catalysts and dominated the finals along with Shaq, and won

>>66817504
>35.8 points
LeBron shot 30% away from the rim, like 35% on uncontested shots. He was one of the least efficient players on the Cavs. No player to have more than 20 isolation possessions in last year's playoffs was less efficient than LeBron. LeBron had around 260. His overall efficiency was virtually identical to this season's Kobe.
>13.3 rebounds
1.8 offensive rebounds per game, 1.4 per 36. He padded his defensive rebounds by stealing them from his own front court players while playing against a team that didn't try to go after offensive rebounds (GSW was ranked 23rd in that category). Zero impact on the game, could have been secured by any other player on his team without anything changing.
>8.8 assists per game
On a team averaging 15.8 assists per game. League-worst that season was 19.4. He dominated possession, so naturally he would get a lot of assists, but he didn't facilitate ball movement or create a meaningful number of opportunities for other players. He made their offense weak, predictable, and inefficient.
And of course, he was also the worst defender on the floor at literally all times, getting dominated by anyone who went against him.
>Without James on the floor, Cleveland’s field goal percentage dropped for 40% to 17%, and it’s offensive efficiency fell from 97.3 to 50.9.
That's a sample size of 3mpg. LeBron spent the entire series freezing teammates out and taking them out of rhythm, not letting anyone else touch the ball. Obviously they're not going to suddenly burst to life when you give each of them a single possession or so per game where they actually have an active role in the offense.
And let's not forget that their rating WITH HIM was, as you said, 97.3. That's literally worse than this year's 76ers, meaning his production was not actually resulting in anything of value. He was carried by the best defense of the playoffs and the fact that Golden State hadn't coached for the sudden change in style by Cleveland.
>>66817743
The difference between Kobe and Lebron, besides obvious things like Lebron's superior points, boards, assists, steals, and blocks per game, is the fact when Lebron wins in the Finals he is beyond the shadow of a doubt the best player on his team.
When Kobe wins? Most of the time Shaq is carrying him
>>66817765
You're right, Shaq needed another superstar scorer to carry the load for him.
>>66817139
I know Robert Sorry is the go to argument against ringzzz, but there's something to be said about getting 7 rings in 3 different teams. Robert Horry may not be a top 200 al time player, but he is the definition of clutch.
>>66817736
the point was kobe was hyped up a lot and that's why mid to late 20 year Olds don't like lebron, since they were teens when he came into the league, and they were young impressionable kids when kobe broke out
I think you missed it

you can say the same thing when Lebron played the Mavs in '11, D-Wade carried the load while Lebron took a backseat
But it's a moot point tbqh, Shaq couldn't win w/o Kobe and vice versa. If anything, Derek Fisher got carried, Joe Anthony got carried, etc.
at the end of the day, every great player pushes themselves to the limit to win a ring, and Kobe has five, and Lebron has 2.
leborn obviously hasn't pushed his teammates and himself enough to be better and win 3 more

Right he was meant to push Mo Williams to beat the legendary Spurs back in 2007? Or push Iman Shumpert, Jr Smith and Delly to beat the Warriors who won 73 games the next season?
Kobe got lucky and that's it, that's why his stats are inferior to Lebron's because he doesn't have to do shit but chuck when he's got Shaq to carry him

Here's a little more context for >>66817837.
Statistically, LeBron is the worst shooter in the NBA in the last 5 seconds. You're also using a 3 year old picture that doesn't include a ton of his modern fuckups. He blew like 3 shots that fit that category in last year's Warriors series alone.
>>66817705
Kobe should just quit basketball at this point
>>66817956
>in the last 5 seconds
kek, cherry picked stats. Lebron is better than Kobe in the clutch overall, deal with it.

There's a reason they call him the King
>>66817928
Not My problem or Kobe's problem that the Cavs are a shit organization. If Lebron played for a better team he would probably win more rings than he has now
>Kobe's stats are inferior
what's the point of stats if you don't win?
>>66817928
>Right he was meant to push Mo Williams to beat the legendary Spurs back in 2007?
...Mo Williams wasn't a Cavalier in 2007.
And the Cavaliers managed 1pt and 3pt losses in the series, locking down a still in his prime Tim Duncan (18ppg on 48% true shooting), while LeBron had the worst Finals series by a superstar in the history of the sport. Go watch the 4th quarter of Game 4 and tell me it isn't the worst a superstar has ever held up under pressure. He singlehandedly loses the game in the last 5 minutes.
>all these filthy casuals coming back to /nba/ since Kobe and the Warriors are big in the news right now

Not even in the same ballpark. Kobe was arguably the best defensive player of the 2004 series, completely locking his assignment down, whereas LeBron was flat out the worst defender of his Finals series. Kobe managed 45.8% true shooting, to LeBron's 42.8%. ORTG of 90 vs. 83. Kobe averaged 3.6 turnovers a game. Not great, but tolerable. LeBron but either set or was one short of (can't recall which and it's a bitch to look up manually) the NBA record for most turnovers per game in a Finals series.
