I've always disliked arsenal but this was one of the most egregrious refereeing decisions I've ever seen:

Van Persie had like 2 seconds in between the whistle and when he shot, and on top of that giving a second yellow for shooting after an offside call is preposterous in the first place. Barcelona wouldn't have beaten Man United in the final, and it very well could have been Arsenal, Real, or even Shaktar there. We might not even consider that Barcelona team among the best ever either, Guardiola might've stayed, maybe Tito doesn't die of cancer from having to be the manager.

Portugal is up by 1 but Rui Costa gets a red card while getting subbed for "wasting time". Germany ties minutes later and Portugal is out of the WC.

I never understood this. Shouldn't things like substitutions be counted into added time anyways? So why would players try and waste time getting subbed anyways?

The guidelines are 30 seconds added time for every sub so you can either waste 30 seconds and see 30 added or waste 10 seconds and see 30 seconds added. The added time never actually reflects the amount of time wasted.
