They are still the singular most important position in the game. There isn't an equivalent player on the defense. Yeah there is a play caller but multiple players can fulfill that role on defense. Also no player on the defense touches the ball on every snap.

I don't understand how they can.
Their socialist sport system makes you have to root for a team that can be hundreds (if not more) of miles away.
The franchise system also takes away (or at least endangers) the personal connection people feel with their local clubs that grow slowly with help of the fans.
