If this was five years ago, I'd be calling bullshit. But I've accepted AND realized that I'll watch anything the UFC puts together anyway. Sure I'll have my opinion about it, but ultimately I'll watch. Having said that, I'll grow more excited the closer it gets.

I also follow some Japanese fighters. They mostly populate lower divisions (therefore are not popular here) and some of their most popular guys have stayed inside of Japan for their entire career. Inoue is one of the best fighters in the sport and is widely considered to have the best chance of beating Roman Gonzalez, the P4P #1. He has multiple belts and has looked great even as his competition has been stepped up. The worry with most promising Japanese fighters is that they'll get physically outclassed when they branch out, but he is nicknamed the monster for a reason.
As far as broadcasting, they really focus on the story more than the sport from what I'm told. It's more about heros and what not. Some of them even look like pop stars.

If MMA expands enough, we could see quality amateur programs. As it stands, your best bet is having experience in another art and then adapting that to MMA.
Most boxing matches go on Youtube. All of the historic stuff is on there. Maybe a recent Showtime or HBO fight will get taken down, but they eventually wind up there as well. I'd recommend checking /r/Boxing or Boxrec for some big upcoming fights and then looking at some of the career of the fighters involved. That's a lot more manageable I think. Also, looking at Ring Magazine Fight of the Years and what not.

Have you seen Anderson Silva fight? It's a good way of baiting your opponent into a counter. It does go wrong sometimes. Watch Barrea-Hamed for instance.
