That's all they're talking about up here in moose country and keep showing clips from the 70s and 80s of guys basically tackling the second baseman to prevent the double play. Obviously that shit is a bit crazy, but there should still be some way to stop a double play shouldn't there? Seems like pretty much any grounder is a guaranteed double play then, unless the fielders are really slow or terrible throws.

According to the rules you can't if you're not directly over the bag and remain aligned with the bag. If a fielder stays to the left or right of the bag it's near impossible to make contact unless you move your arms or legs. This new rule has some serious implications on how the game is played now.

This is exactly what MLB the team owners want. Players are paid way too much money to risk injury from aggressive contact; specifically if that contact isn't vital to the play of the game. Owners don't want to see their $15-$20 million/year investments out with a broken leg because someone was trying to break up a double play. This same logic is why pitchers might not be batting for much longer. When you're paying people like Greinke and Price $30+ million a year, the owners are going to want to keep their injury risk as low as possible so they won't be paying for a $36 million dollar hospital patient.
