it's not about concurrence, the US youth setup is flawed on a fundamental level. If you want to optimize for the NT, you need a bunch of academies, taking in young kids and before that you need quality youth coaches, working with grassroot clubs.
Once the youngsters are good enough, they need pro contracts and solid playing time with MLS teams. Since MLS will never get to the level of the bigger European leagues in the near future, the best and brightest should try to transfer over there as soon as possible.
If >we can have an NT full of regular players from the top leagues of Europe, you lot can have that as well. Just think of the possibilities, you'll have a bunch of Pulisic's to overhype at any given time, as well as established players that are accustomed to the high-intensity of top-level football.
