The cable companies ie Comcast pay put more Live sporting events because they know without them literally no one would have cable anymore.
He's right about the NFL. The fact that all you need to watch NFL games is some rabbit ears/a digital tuner is a huge part of the reason it's the most popular sport in America. I feel like none of the other sports leagues understand that money from lots of viewers > money made from expensive cable deals.
The NBA may be starting to realize this too, with their Saturday games on ABC.

Difference is nfl teams only have 1 game a week. Nba and nhl have 3/4 a week. Mlb has a game everyday. Nba has Saturday and Sunday on ABC after superbowl to fill the sports void and the finals are on ABC but that's pretty much it. Nhl is run by retards who put their games on channels nobody gets and mlb only gets a couple games on ESPN
