All you can do is "get a hand in their face". You can't handcheck anymore, you can't jump for a block or the player will flail and a foul will be called. So yeah, he easily could have shot if there were a UNC player out there.
Only problem I have with meme shooting is when people that aren't good at it rely heavily on it. That's just shooting your team in the foot, especially if you're not a top team at offensive rebounding. If you can't shoot at a high percentage like Curry or Buddy, don't shoot memes in games. Practice in the off the court until you're good enough.
