look at other coaches' opinions of him, particularly coaches who have high "judging player potential"
bear in mind that coaches tend to overhype players with a lot of speed or good physicals in general
and some of it is just common sense. if the guy is 23 and has 200 career league games to his name, he's probably not going to go from being a championship quality player to a champions league quality player all of a sudden

15-17: have him in your youth team, try to give him occasional sub appearances in you first team if you can afford it
18-21: have him in your first team, give him as many starts as you can. if that isn't at least 10 per season in all competitions, loan them out to someone who can
at about 22 it's time to think about cutting them loose. you'll probably lower those numbers as you get more accustomed to how players develop, but if a guy is stagnating at that point you can pretty safely assume he's not going anywhere

ultimately that's what it comes down to, staff are predictable but not fully trustworthy. take a look at each of them, look at their abilities, and then decide who it's worth taking advice from.
again, as you get more accustomed to FM, you'll see patters and not really need their advice anymore, so experiment with players as much as you can.

there's no one answer to that, it's all about making your overall tactic work with the players you have. usually I have individual instructions for at least half my players - if I'm playing a defensive formation with a DM on the field, I'll usually tell my centre backs to close down less and pass shorter, for example, and I like to tell my fullbacks and any technically-limited midfielders to shoot less.
the main thing to worry about with instructions is when you're dealing with low-quality players. if you give them (or the team) instructions that are too ambitious relative to their abilities, like asking semi-pro defenders to make short quick passes and try to play the ball out of the back instead of hoofing it downfield, you can mess yourself up

Actually this tictac would work better if Inverted Wingbacks actually worked, or if there was a wide and aggressive CB role. Making players run back and forth isn't too hard; making them play wider individually is a fucking nightmare. If you have money to spend, make your first priority a really great CB who's amazing in the air. ideally someone with high stamina and no injury proneness so that he can play in pretty much every game
other than that use defensive/counterattacking tactics as much as you can, use the "no pressure" or "get revenge" teamtalks against stronger opponents, and see if you can find some cheap, speedy kids to stick in your youth team and use as rotation players when you have league and continental games in close succession

Yes and no. Understanding football tactics is a huge, huge plus going in to 4cc management because you will automatically avoid being completely ass by virtue of not playing a retarded tactic. FM can help with that. On the other hand, you will still need to download and play PES and learn how to apply your knowledge of football to the game and make a good team.
So really, it can help, but you can help yourself in the exact same way by not playing FM and reading football literature or watching games with educated pundits, but it's not the total package you need to be a top tier guy. Common sense should still take you decently far.

So, I'm trying out this tactic with mixed results. I'm winning games but struggle to score.
The Rudar Velenje games was a fluke. penalty and two set pieces goals. The last game against Krsko was good though but I remain unconvinced. The game against Dinamo was shit, from both ends, they won after a penalty. Every team is way weaker then me in the league so its sometimes hard to tell what works and what doesn't. We do appear to be tight at the back playing like this, if nothing else.
Any suggestions? Also, I want my fucking TM to stay in the god damn box not drop deep, he's got high jumping and heading. I want F9 to drop deep, he's shit at heading and jumping but good at dribbling and finishing, yet its the opposite happening. Should I just play the TM as an AF/Poacher? Alternatively should I just try Poacher-TM partnership?
Either way, suggestions would be appreciated.

The second you put a TM, your team will hoof the ball to him regardless of your tactics. Another thing SI doesn't mention.
As a result, I believe your TM drops deep to get the ball and the F9, expecting to receive it from the TM, makes the run. Which is expected IMO of a TM: use their strength to get the ball and pass it to more technically good players who will score/create. If you want him to stay in the box, using an AF would work better. Like I said earlier about the TM, when you put a Poacher on the field, no one cares about him: they'd rather shoot unless he dropped deep to get the ball (very rare cuz >poacher). They expect the Poacher to play like Super Pipo: they shoot, the keeper fumbles the ball and the Poacher scores.
You could always tell your F9 to roam from position and shoot less.

Yeah, but I'd assume the "leads the line" when on attack would mean something especially because I've got Artur there feeding him crosses to the far post.
The way I was imagining it to work is that the F9 drops deeps, pulls out a defender hopefully, while the TM goes in the box and gets the cross increasing his chances of defeating his marker since he's 2m tall and has both heading and jumping at ~15

Do you guys analyze your squad and evaluate your players' performances?
Like, do you make your squad decisions (who to buy, who to sell, which 11 to play in the most important games) etc based on ability, on your gut feeling, a mixture of the two, or do you actually analyze how your players did?
I started going through each player's performances after half a year ingame (two seasons ago) and it worked very well for me. one of my CMs who was literally 4th choice became 1st choice after I looked at these numbers and realized that he does well not only against shit teams, but regardless of the opponent.
He played lots of games anyway because I rotate and pick players based on form (against easier opponents), but I never played him in the biggest games because he was my weakest cm, raw ability wise, and up until then I picked my players based on form for most games and based on ability for important games.
I was literally handicapping myself by not playing this kid Joshua Holtby. He's a monster no matter who I play against, and he regularly scores and does well against huge teams.

Also, feel bad about Dob on my save desu. They were relegated from the 2nd league and spent a season or two in the 3rd regional league, they managed to get back up and even get back2back promotions iirc. Now they're fighting to avoid relegation.
