I think a lot of it had to do with the players realizing that SAF was gone and Moyes wasn't invincible like he was. They didn't have to play as hard as they wouldn't get murdered by the coach, as Moyes didn't nearly have the power SAF did. With Ferguson the players would either do what he told them to or fuck off, and Ferguson had that power due to his length of time there. There was no question of Ferguson getting sacked, the players knew it wasn't going to happen, so they just had to play harder, it wasn't the same with Moyes. I don't think the players were giving him the best performances they could have given him.
