It isn't though, its down to player happiness, fatigue, squad cohesion, a ton of things.
Its your tactics is just a /trb/ meme because it was really the only thing Miles could say to pleb players who would start as someone like Barca and still lose half their games and complain like the game was at fault. They had no appreciation for the fact that there was hundreds of different things that weight the match engine and whilst tactics are very significant ultimately the player complaining had probably done something incredibly stupid.

what kind of roles do you guys set up the midfield triangle as in a 4-1-2-3? kinda fancy a REGISTA boys, is the role any good?

Regista are great if you have a good player for the role. You'll want a DM or Anchorman next to him otherwise you'll get shafted by counters.
>>
>>66364261
Registas don't defend, ever. IRL it's because they're usually crippled old playmakers (Pirlo), so SI has replicated that in the game. They're basically deeper, modern Enganches: since they don't play just behind the strikers they are not marked by 6s (especially against a 433/451/442 diamond, etc.) as easily as usual 10s. You'll need high Workrate defensive mids alongside them, who are willing to run after every ball and support the attack. Box2Box or BWM are for me the choices.

a lot of great players come from west africa, but scouts tend not to do a very good job of finding them. you might want to check the national teams (and u-20 national teams) of ghana, cote d'ivoire, nigeria etc. every year or two for good young players, and request reports on them individually

>>
>>66365311
it's pretty hard. honestly, you might not want to bother, scouts do so poorly at finding players from there.
just check their national teams (or the squads of major clubs) by yourself once every couple years, and if you see a player that looks to be good (even if you can't see attributes you can look at their value, their number of appearances and/or match ratings, their age relative to the rest of the squad, etc.) you can request for a scout to follow that player individually for 2 weeks/1 month/whatever it takes
if you want to build up a base level of knowledge for the region and can't find a scout with pre-existing knowledge, just pick any scout with high adaptability and give them an ongoing assignment to that region. just don't rely on that assignment to find players.

Stop that. They'll always be regens regardless of the fact that term is not exactly accurate now.
Yeah you get them from all around the world but if you don't have the league loaded then it won't properly simulate the league and matches which can mean stunted development and also fewer regens as the league mainly uses fake, grey players.
>>
>>66365499
>so I get newgens from all over the world regardless of what leagues I have for my database..?
Not really. Newgens/regens comes from your country mainly, but depending of your scouts' knowledge and nationalities in the staff regarding youth players, you may get some foreign newgens. Once I had a French regen in Slovenia. I don't have the screen cuz' he was shit and I released him, it it can happen.

>>
>>66365499
>Oh, so I get newgens from all over the world regardless of what leagues I have for my database..?
Right
>Then what is the point of the database, if I'm not looking to sign any existing players
Loaded countries get far more players, although roughly the same percentage of good vs. passable vs. bad
Loaded countries also have games that are properly simulated, so players will develop properly. Useful for clubs there, also useful for you if you want to loan players out to those clubs, since guys in non-loaded leagues tend to stagnate a little

You'll also end up with weird situations in continental club games or international matches with non-loaded countries, particularly if you choose to use a small database, where their teams will only have 4-5 players, and the rest of the spots in the squad are filled by greyed-out "virtual" players who have no club history, can't be transferred, etc.

you've probably loaded more than you need to there.
I like to pick the top 4-5 countries (spain, england, germany, france, italy; sometimes portugal, russia, and netherlands too) and a few countries geographically relevant to wherever I'm managing (in england that might be scotland, ireland, and belgium or whatever)
beyond that, selecting large database for the world and choosing the "generate players from top level clubs" for europe is usually good enough

>Colombia/ Mexico/ Spain - 2

I kind of like the system for Russia and Mexico, it reflects a couple real-life things I've heard mexicans complain about.

In FM, the players with elite potential are more likely to start with a low CA (junior coaching) and more likely to stay too long in the weak domestic league. There are very restrictive foreign player limits and the clubs can pay
>>
>>66366378
It's balanced somewhat with the fact that none of the Russian teams have very good youth systems and the AI is usualy too dumb to upgrade them even if they have a lot of money, which lot of Russian clubs do.
They still produce better players than in real life, though.

better make sure you really do stab them in the back in that case, although I'm not sure how much you can piss off players at a national team level

as a side note, has the match preparation thing been fixed for national teams? do players actually learn the tactics you've selected now, or are they still forever stuck at 'unfamiliar'?

>>
>>66368284
hard question to answer, but quite important. it's more important at really low levels when everyone is terrible at everything and the winning team is usually the one that tries a little more, but even at the top level, a player with 20 determination is so much more reliable than a guy with 7 or 8
>>
>>66368334
i'd say no.
shit bravery concentration and positioning would not fug
>>
>>66368334
My slightly joking answer was essentially telling what you needed to know though.
If they aren't determined then they won't be fucked to work hard in training, work hard on the pitch etc, etc so yeah its pretty important.
>>
>>66368365
mentals unlikely to improve much?
>>
>>66368334
maybe, probably not, it's hard to say. I don't think it's worth buying players for determination alone, since you can increase it using tutoring or warnings/fines, but occasionally (not always) it's associated with really high-potential players
he doesn't look particularly amazing even for his age, but have your scouts watch him for a month or so, and see if they think he's an exceptional talent.

>>66368377
determination doesn't effect training
>>
>>66368394
with right tutor they will.
But he is underdeveloped in my opinion and you should be capable in finding better players than him.
team and league?
>>
>>66368334
He'll turn out decent. If you have a large budget you could buy him and let him sit in the youth for a few years then flip him for profit
>>
>>66368439
I don't know, that's why I'm asking. I'm new to FM, played FM11 at a friend's house once, got FM16 on sale. I'm an actual football player IRL (amateur, don't get too excited) and I'm pretty good at football knowledge, but I'm lacking in FM knowledge. I don't know the ins and outs of the video game stat part, if that makes sense?

Board handed me a ridiculous 90m transfer budget for my third season after a ludicrously easy CL run in my 2nd season (Juve, Ajax, Arsenal, Man City). I'm looking to shift out basically all of my non-regen youth players below 3 star potential and fill my U18/21s with regen 4+ star hopefuls for that big pile o cash.

Thanks for the feedback.

>>66368469
Thanks, that's sort of what I was thinking.
>>
>>66368516
cash really isn't much of an object when managing in england, as you're finding. so I guess there's no risk in signing youth players that might not turn out great, but on the other hand the 4-5m profits you'll make off them if you decide to sell is just a waste of time
you're probably better off holding out for the absolute top talents unless you really need a bunch of backup players for some reason
>>
>>66368516
hm yes but what team do you manage?

And no worries if you dont know the ins out, we all start somewhere.

Only fill your u18/u21 with 4*+ hopefulls if your youth training is up to scratch.

For the rest england is easy mode for managing, massive influx of money etc.

>>
>>66368629
fair enough. just bear in mind that managing a bloated squad can get really frustrating. when all those guys turn 20 and start demanding first team appearances, transfers, and loans, it can get annoying fast. that's why people usually sign only a few really good players as opposed to a bunch of fairly good players, but that doesn't mean to say it's the only way.

The funniest part with Spurs is selling your players for retardedly high fees before watching fail hard everywhere else.
At least it was the case for every player I sold. Chadli ended up in L1 after being sold 25m to Roma. Bentaleb played like ten games or Juventus after being sold 45m. Kondogbia to Juventus? 38m after I bought him for 5, he never had an average higher than 6.80 or them. Bought Konoplyanka for 17m, sold him for almost 80m to PSG and he never played more than 10 games for them in one season.
The list goes longer.

currently they have solanke, isaiah brown, nathan, lewis and pantic on loan. the way chelsea do it is they assess a player and based on where they're at they'll loan them to vitesse (that's like the starter pack), or if they're better they'll look for another team in a stronger league (ake at watford, bamford at norwich, musonda at betis, christensen at monchengladblach)

i would like to emulate this model, but it frustrates me that if you offer a guy on loan to clubs sometimes nobody will respond even if you're offer them for free and they're eager to go and talented, so then i try building some affilates in various leagues so I can just send them there and then they don't want to go
>>
>>66370194
I agree, I've never had much success with FM's loan system. In my current save I have a fairly large pool of backup-quality young players (mostly youth academy kids). I'd like to keep some of them at the club as subs/rotation options and loan some of them out, so basically I just offer all of them out, and figure out my squad based on the 2-3 responses I get. There doesn't seem to be any pattern - it isn't the best players that get interest, it isn't the same players or the same clubs every year, it's just something like a 1 in 4 chance that a player offered for a free loan will actually garner interest.

If you have one player in particular you're wanting to ship out, it's annoying as fuck
>>
>>66370323
I hate when you don't pay attention to someone who's actually pretty decent and he gets like 2 games in half a season at Scunthorpe

That one. I've had it a few times, some players thrive better under a bit of competition but yeah its kinda annoying they get so annoyed about it but I guess you could view it as a lot of pressure on them since it implies the team may flop if he got injured or played badly.

holy shit, yes.

I tried AMCs lots of times before, but I always tried two of them next to each other and both played unbelievably narrow.

When I play a 5-2-3 with an AMCL, AMR and ST, the AMCL plays in the half space like he is supposed to be.

thanks familia

intredasting. I'll have to try that next time, I ran a formation like that in this save (in 15, admittedly) but went for CWB/IF. as much as I despise them, a winger would probably stretch the defense better

thanks again senpai. the asymmetrical AMC/AML idea was exactly what I needed.

Finally I pulled off Tuchel's BVB side. one pitch of the side is swarmed with players and the opponent simply cannot contain it, there's another attacking wide player (WBa) on the other flank for cheeky diagonal passes to open up the defense, and the front three simply works perfectly (relative to what else you can do in FM 16). finally I have a front 3 that's neither too narrow (easily choked to death) nor too wide (easily isolated).

Also, having a guy in the middle of the pitch alleviates the struggles I had when I used two wide players - I just didn't have a strong enough midfield at times and my players could not keep hold of the ball in dangerous areas when it would've been important.

Kagawa's role is important - he needs to be a role that does not move around too much, and he has to have his mentality just right to connect defense and offense. attacking mentality on CM works well from my 3 tests, and I literally watched big portions of the full games for an hour now.

Gündogan is supposed to be a regista, by the way. fucked that up in the screenshot.

the player on the wing should really be a winger, it really fucks up the opponents defence the best. for the AMC, both AMa and SS work. it helps a lot to have "moves into channels" on your AMC.

IWBs are still shit by the way, and Wa + WBa on one side works perfectly well in FM 16.

this shit is solid as fuck too in defence because its essentially a 5 atb when defending.

I wish I could've been this autistic for sp.

guys, one of the few things that I cannot wrap my head around is fluidity.

what do you prefer fluidity wise, and why?

more rigid/structured football makes you think of 4-4-2 bongland hoofball, and more fluid makes you think of progressive, modern attacking football that you'd see from the likes of barca. but is that actually true in FM? most of barca's strength comes from neat and tidy positioning and keeping up a great, well thought out structure on the pitch at all times, so I'm thinking that more rigid is actually better if you have a formation that puts your players in the right areas and allows you to pass the ball well.

Shamefur dispray m8. For reel, you need more fluid tactics to unlock those defence and don't overload the box, it doesn't work. And actually good defenders that will stop counters. Basically, rape them out of their best players.
>>
>>66379649
Realization is killing me the most, not putting chances into the goal. I mean, that Gorica game from yesterday was a perfect example, 20 shots on target, 5 clear cut chances vs 0 shots on target and a 0-0 result.

In hindsight that game lost me the title. I think part of the problem was I brought a fair amount of new players into the team, most of them young, and fucked with my cohesion.

Oh well.
>>
>>66379695
>Not having high cohesion training after recruiting players
Hum. If it's FM16, needs more crosses. You gotta find a way to stretch their defence, just shooting and holding the ball won't work, especially if you keep getting busted by counters. 1-0 is fine too.

Say, as a Slovenian, how'd you feel if there was a big Yugoslavian league instead of all these small leagues?
>>
>>66379713
>>Not having high cohesion training after recruiting players
I did, but then I had some panic buys in the winter and not enough time to work on it.

>Say, as a Slovenian, how'd you feel if there was a big Yugoslavian league instead of all these small leagues?
It would be pretty good for the sport, but it's complicated and almost impossible to form.

I did saw that DB for a Yugoslav league yesterday and it's shit desu. No rhyme or reason to it.

>I did saw that DB for a Yugoslav league yesterday and it's shit desu. No rhyme or reason to it.

>>
>>66379798
>Club selection. I didn't see any logic to it.
Reputation based, as well as results. Like when those clubs from inactive leagues get promoted into playable leagues: it's basically reputation based. Which is also why loading the most leagues possible is a good thing to avoid funky results in some leagues, at least in view-only.
>>
>>66379805
>Reputation based
It's not though. Unless you mean reputation based but a limitation on number of clubs from a specific country that is arbitrary set by the creator.

They should just copy clubs from 91' season if anything.
>>
>>66379825
>Unless you mean reputation based but a limitation on number of clubs from a specific country that is arbitrary set by the creator.
I'm not sure what you mean. You just put the best clubs in the top league, so on so forth. Yeah the creator has to take some kind of decision in the process but so what? It's necessary to take a cut somewhere. Copying the clubs from the '91 season would be even worse because it wouldn't reflect the quality of the squads, the wealth of each club and their overall strength.

The cuts make no sense. That's what I'm telling you.

Which the creator didn't do.

It's not reputation based and it's not based on the squad strength. I'm salty because it doesn't include Olimpija from Slovenia despite having a stronger squad than any Bosnian club and Stronger than, for example, Vojvodina that is also featured.

In fact it includes 3 Bosnian clubs from a league that's worse rated than all other ex-yu leagues excluding Montenegro and Macedonia...

Post the pic of the DB again.

Well they're in there as you can see on the screenshot. Again, there are no Yugo teams missing. If you're just buttblasted because team X is in division Y instead of being in division Z, you can edit it in the db. Olimpija isn't that strong compared to other Yugo teams, and in-game they have lower rep and money than Vojvodina. Wouldn't be surprised they'd be in D2.
>>

>Well they're in there as you can see on the screenshot. Again, there are no Yugo teams missing
I never claimed they're not in the game. I was obviously talking about the top flight, since that's what I saw in the screenshot posted yesterday.

> If you're just buttblasted because team X is in division Y instead of being in division Z, you can edit it in the db.
I don't see your problem right now. I just told you the DB is shit-because it's shit. You're free to play it anyway, I don't really care.

>Olimpija isn't that strong compared to other Yugo teams,
Are you really going to force me to start a new game and compare them? Granted I'm in FM16.

>and in-game they have lower rep and money than Vojvodina
Does that equal squad strength? If so, how do you explain D1 including clubs like Zrinjski , Vardar an that Montenegrin club, whtout even bringing other Bosnian clubs to the table?

Whoever was compiling D1 didn't use any of the above mentioned values, instead he pre-determined how many clubs each republic gets in the top flight and only then maybe allotted the slots based on any metrics.

Get it? That's why it's shit. And if he had done that, it would have made more sense to just copy the 91' league, he would have ended up with an almost identical league anyway.

Just to outline what I mean. Iirc (post the picture please) this club is in D1, the only club from Macedonia

It wasn't included based on reputation, value or squad strenght. It was included because the creator of D1 wanted at least 1 Macedonian club in the top flight.

Do you understand what I mean now?
>>
>>66380033
> I was obviously talking about the top flight, since that's what I saw in the screenshot posted yesterday.
Well they're top flight, so we're not talking about the same db.

As well as squad strength... what, you mean some teams over/under perform?

>>66380082
And I don't see the issue. Of course, if you strictly want the team with the most "potential" you'll be annoyed, but if you want a league that represents somewhat all the countries in it, it's fair. Regardless of that, when you merge several leagues, you have to simulate those leagues for a year or two so they balance each other out. Even if you pretend to put strictly the strongest teams in the top flight there will be surprises left and right.
>>
>>66380117
>As well as squad strength... what, you mean some teams over/under perform?
No, I mean just the raw stats and player values of each team.

>And I don't see the issue. Of course, if you strictly want the team with the most "potential" you'll be annoyed, but if you want a league that represents somewhat all the countries in it, it's fair.
And that's why I'm saying it's shit.

The Yugoslav leagues ratings are
1.Croatia (17th)
2.Serbia(27th)
3.Slovenia(30th
4.Bosnia(37th)
5.Macedonia(40th)
6.Montenegro(44th)

Yet Slovenia gets the same number of representatives as Macedonia and Montenegro. Does that make sense to you then? It's why I'm saying it's shit.

The creator decided before even looking at things like team reputation, squad strength, etc how many Country X clubs will he put in D1. So you have 3 bosnian teams all of them weaker and from a weaker league playing in D1 than Olimpija that plays in D2(I assume) despite playing in a stronger league and being the 2nd best team in the country and having the same or more reputation and a stronger squad than those teams.

>>And I don't see the issue.
I do though, that's why I said it's shit. Yes, I am slightly salty about it but I don't care as much it appears, just trying to clear this up for you to understand why it's shit.
>>

>Yet Slovenia gets the same number of representatives as Macedonia and Montenegro.
Until the 23rd or so rank in Euro reputations, there is no difference in the amount of clubs in European competitions unless you're Gibraltar or Lichtenstein. None. UEFA/SI said so. Pic related in the "real" save. It makes no difference unless it's Bayern Maribor. I've yet to see any Slovenian team (and I mean, "any") get out of the quali rounds of EL in my save. Well, outside of Maribor that choked in the knockout stages. Reputation is nearly the same, money also is, remains supposed squad strength. Well, if they're so good, simulate for a year two or three times over and see if they get promoted.

>Olimpija that plays in D2(I assume)
So we're not talking about the same db since I told you Olimpija isn't in D2.
>>

>Until the 23rd or so rank in Euro reputations, there is no difference in the amount of clubs in European competitions un
That doesn't matter, for fucks sake, we're not talking about the number of QL spots, we're talking about the strength of the league. Bosnia obviously has a weaker league than Slovenia.

>I've yet to see any Slovenian team (and I mean, "any") get out of the quali rounds of EL in my save.
Again, why does this matter at all?

> Reputation is nearly the same, money also is, remains supposed squad strength
Except it's not, neither is money, holy fuck, just because they have equal amounts in the bank doesn't mean that they have equal money, Olimpija has a squad that's worth twice as much. Ever heard of assets?

>So we're not talking about the same db since I told you Olimpija isn't in D2.

>>
>>66380418
>So it's better but "not much" according to you? So you are actually confirming what I said? For fucks sake.
And it's literally nothing unless you're willing to be literal every time. 400 rep is near nothing.

> Now compare how much the squad is actually worth. And no, I can't see, I don't speak french lmao.
First row is money in the bank, second row is transfer budget. It's not gonna work in Slovenia's favour because squad worth is based on contract length and salary.

But if you insist, the 11 best Vadar players have a CA between 94 and 138. The 11 best Olimpija players have a CA between 105 and 115. Much difference yeah.
>>
>>66380418
>>66380482
It's very simple: the reputation and ranking of the Slovenian league is inflated by Maribor. The rest of the teams are complete shit, including the supposed second best Olimpija. The only way they had in my save to be competitive is because Maribor has fixture congestion due to CL football and no actual rescheduling. The second I put matchdays on Wednesdays and Saturdays they became fodder. Yes, if the teams were properly scouted and Maribor not as dominating it shouldn't have happened. But then, the AI is crap at squad making so whatever.

Blame SI, blame the Maribor fanboy scouts, blame everyone, but there's very little difference between the two leagues as far as the game goes. IRL it indeed may be different and you'd have a good reason to be (very, very sligthly) salty about it.

If you take the average reputation of the clubs in the leagues, Slovenia's D1 has an average rep of 4825, and 4694 without Bayern Maribor. Bosnia? 4290. And they have 16 teams in their top league, not 10.

>squad worth is based on contract length and salary
Well there's also an element of performances, especially for attacking players who can have their value inflate very quickly.
>>
>>66380482
>And it's literally nothing unless you're willing to be literal every time. 400 rep is near nothing.
Except when you say Vojvodina has a higher rep, right? Then it matter. Granted I don't have the editor so I can't actually check it in depth. But the difference between Vojvodina and Olimpija is about the same as between Vardar and Olimpija.

>It's not gonna work in Slovenia's favour because squad worth is based on contract length and salary.
But that's wrong.

>But if you insist, the 11 best Vadar players have a CA between 94 and 138. The 11 best Olimpija players have a CA between 105 and 115. Much difference yeah
Check PA as well, not just CA friend. It makes a huge difference. Also, if you want to throw numbers like that around you have to put out averages, not "in between" that tell nothing.

You're just being stubborn at this point. If this >>66379917 is actually the Yugoslav Top Flight in 2016 it's shit, and the only way you can contradict that is if you're French and know literally nothing about football in ex-yu. If any DB that puts a Zavrc in the top flight you should trash it right away.

Also, I found the pic >>66365771
This is what I was talking about the entire time. It's why I was complaining. It _SHOULD_ Include Olimpija by any objective metric in that D1

>>66380599
>Well there's also an element of performances, especially for attacking players who can have their value inflate very quickly.
Just check the squad worth m9. It's also dependent on PA and age of the players.

>Well there's also an element of performances, especially for attacking players who can have their value inflate very quickly.
Having a ST CA 100 at 21 is worth a lot more than a ST CA 100 at 34.

In terms of rep? Yeah. In terms of money? Not even close, but then the whole Serbian league gives better money than Slovenia.

>But that's wrong.
Sell Kuhar to Real Mad or similar and see what his value becomes when they give him a new contract. Of course actual performances, PA, CA do matter. But sign them a new contract and look at their value.

>You're just being stubborn at this point. If this >>66379917 (You) is actually the Yugoslav Top Flight in 2016 it's shit, and the only way you can contradict that is if you're French and know literally nothing about football in ex-yu. I perfectly acknowledge that isn't not only the best teams in the D1. I've already said that furthermore, I'm perfectly fine with the teams in the db being sorted on other criteras than what the scouts told SI about reputation or Marcos Tavares (because they also put some serious bullshit in the db). But the difference between all these teams, bar the really strong ones like Hajduk, Maribor and the like is very little. You can look at the db. Yes it would be different in real life, but as far as the game goes it isn't.
>>
>>66380715
>Vojvodina
>In terms of rep?
I mean the difference between Olimpija, Vojvodina and Vadar. Around 400 rep points.
>>
>>66380715
And I'm saying that despite not including Olimpija.

But, in the second DB, when Maribor has the second highest reputation in Yugoslavia there's something wrong with the DB. I mean Crvena Zvezda won the damn CL 20ish years ago and I don't see it listed there. It's also retarded to see Olimpija have 100rep more than Zavrc, a literal meme village club that was in the 2nd division 2 years ago...

>>66380715
>Yeah. In terms of money?
In FM16 Vojvodina has a squad worth less than Olimpija. You're getting hung up on the bank balance instead of the actual club assets and players.

>But sign them a new contract and look at their value.
Then check it already. Tell me who has a squad worth more...

I'm sorry but the contract size is the LEAST important factor in a player's worth. In fact in FM2016 I NEVER notice the player's value skyrocket when they sign a new contract.

>But the difference between all these teams, bar the really strong ones like Hajduk, Maribor and the like is very little. You can look at the db. Yes it would be different in real life, but as far as the game goes it isn't.
That's why it's a shit DB lad. It's not even close to real life, that's the problem. So what do you call a simulation of real life that's really bad at simulating real life? SHIT.

What have I said in my first post? That the DB is shit man. I said it because it's shit. I mean you can enjoy it and play it anyway, who cares at the end of the day, but it's not a good recreation of a yugo league.
>>
>>66380818
>You're getting hung up on the bank balance instead of the actual club assets and players.
After sayingt that Serbia gives better money to mitigate that? Not really no.

Also, you'd be vary not to shit talk Zavrc. Their best 11 players have their CA between 96 and 112 (vs 105 to 115 for Olimpija), they have 100 less rep points than Olimpija and very similar transfer budget as well as money in the bank. Blame the MADibor fanbois, but it's really not so different in game. However Olimpija has better infrastructures and regens usually by a fairly decent margin. Without calculating I think Oli has a slightly better squad tho'. I told you, there's no fucking way a D2 side can cruise in a D1 league like that but in FM it's possible.

>What have I said in my first post? That the DB is shit man.
And it's not the db's fault holy shit, that's what I'm saying. The original SI db is like that. Get it? Those teams aren't that different IN GAME.

Anyway, this is what it's looking like in the "Serbian" db (with Oli in D2) in January.

I just loaded a new game man. Olimpija has a squad worth more than Vojvodina. I don't know, maybe it's different in FM15. I don't own FM15.

>Also, you'd be vary not to shit talk Zavrc. Their best 11 players have their CA between 96 and 112 (vs 105 to 115 for Olimpija
I already told you, CA is only half the story. PA and the player's age's plays an equally important part.

I assumed the DB was tampered with when creating the new yugo league though. Fair enough. It is what it is in the game.

> they have 100 less rep points than Olimpija and very similar transfer budget
Yet their squad is worth half as much (at least in FM16). Players in game are like assets. Transfer budget doesn't mean much when you can sell one or two players and have a transfer budget 10 times the size and they wouldn't be able to match it even if they sold half their squad.

Perhaps it really is much different in FM16. I don't have the editor though so I can't check in depth. Either way, it really is Autism at this point. Pic related was the actual league in the last Yugoslav season though.

>>66380904
It's weird that Maribor has such a high rep ingame. It's common knowledge that the most reputable clubs in ex-yu are Partizan, Crvena Zvezda, Dinamo and Hajduk. Those were the "big 4". Olimpija was a fringe club, I don't have trouble admitting that. So it's not like I think they should be the best of the best.

I didn't take the risk to load a transfer update (Sortitoutsi) with a Yugo db, felt it would go haywire. I mean I could try, but if I get a BSOD I'm taking the plane to Marseille and then to your house. If you're not finding all those AK-47 hidden in the Balkans, it's because they're in Marseille currently.

Well fuck it, let's load the transfer update and see what happens. I'll still blame you. FWIW, this is the league table before I restart. I had FM16 on my PC at some point, I got mad with the match engine and went back to FM15 so I'm not too fancy about re-DLing it to check the db and I believe you if you say the squad is better.

The immediate issue with a transfer update is that the player ratings/potential aren't adjusted. So Barca becomes irrelevant in terms of aiming for the title for example.

I hope you're not disappointed, but this guy would be a solid Bundesliga player.

Also: Yes, there is a huge difference, but you'll only notice it in your game when you tell your team to look for overlapping players and if you don't hoof the ball up the pitch too fast, because then your wing backs will simply be ignored.

To see the difference you'll have to turn on 2D view for a while. Attacking wing backs play somewhat like timid wingers, they slowly push higher and higher until they're as high up the pitch as your strikers, offering great width and allowing your other players to play narrower, in more dangerous areas.

Fullbacks are pretty much pointless if you don't want them for their defensive """ability""" - they'll literally never prevent crosses from happening anyway, but at least they'll stop your opponent from countering down the flanks. But attacking fullbacks are fucking garbage, they push up just enough to leave your wings without immediate cover but not enough to really be useful except for some rare occasions.

been watching in 2d for ages anyway, makes the game more enjoyable to me for some reason

is having wingers on support combined with wingbacks on attack a solid plan then? or perhaps should I be playing with inside forwards so they'll cut inside while the wingbacks stay wide and ping balls into the box?

RIP Triglav.
>>
>>66381749
the former is not a good idea.

the role of the winger is not important, both Wa and IF can work. the important part is the mentality - attacking wingbacks behave a bit like supporting wingers would behave. I currently have wingers on attack duty. they automatically play narrower than the wing backs, the wing backs kind of push them inside when they run up.

what I'm trying to say is: use both on attack. if that is too attacking for you, use the wing backs on support, not the other way round.

IF can work too, on any duty really. that's really down to preference, I've always hated how IF play in FM and how they never fulfill their role and just fuck around imo. wingers are just too OP this game, anything that likes to cross it in (or occupy the box when the ball is on the other flank, which wingers also do) is too good not to use imo
>>
>>66381878
hmmm alright then

i'mm try wingers on attack as well as wingbacks on attack and see how things go

currently up 3-1 so this seems to be working quite nicely but then again it could just be because i'm up against shitters

>Hajduk getting relegated
I hadn't activated the options to add new staff and players, but that's unexpected. Oli wins the D2 by 2 points BTW.

Gonna let this run for a few years. The issue with that kind of db is that you can't add or remove countries (thanks Miles). As a result, "Yugoslavia" is nothing more than a modified Serbia. Slovenia, Macedonia and the likes are still in the db; they just have no clubs and no players (unless the game decides to generate some at some point, which is going to be a massive clusterfuck). And they still have a higher UEFA coeff than Yugoslavia. Yugo is ranked 50th, which is going to murder the clubs in there desu. That kind of db really needs to be simulated for a long time to "even out" regarding clubs, squads and reputation.

Fucking weird desu. Rijeka winning, Vardar runner up and Hajduk flopping this badly.
>>
>>66382036
ML/MR on attack duty track back and defend. Again, just check out the game in 2D to see that this is true. They'll stay up higher for the first few moments of the opponents attack, and that's just how I want it because I want to be able to hit the opponent on the break. If the opponent manages to bring the ball into my half of the pitch, Wa will track back and defend just like a Ws would.
>>
>>66382059
And they're flopping even harder by the minute.

Happens when you don't generate players and staff to fill the squads and when it's the only playable league (I've put the neighbour countries on view only but still). That said, since the data update already has (supposedly) accurate transfer budgets I hadn't locked the first window budget. Curious they didn't recruit players if they were missing so many of them. But then...
>AI squad building
>Non updated player rankings
Needs a few years if not a decade to even out completely.
>>
>>66382121
This is an interesting experiment though. The 1st league should have 16 team too though. Would be better I think. 12 is a bit low for a Yugoslav league.

Show the first league every now and then, if you can. Still, Hajduk flopping that badly is rally unrealistic, lel, even Split is above them.

Because of their qualification places. They were 50th. Actually when I loaded the save they were 7th in reputation but 50th in rankings, but it keeps dropping because since they don't have nearly as many clubs in Euro competitions, they don't perform much. Also, when your league's rating is shit, your players want to leave because "team X plays in a better league". Also, it means that the teams aren't seeded as highly anymore. Like pic related: since they have to go through 8 matches to get in EL, Dinamo got cucked by being drawn against Newcastle. Fortunately the league's rating is getting higher (they're 33rd now), but it doesn't change much in terms of access to European spots. Which is why i said it needs to run for a while to get their league rating back up.

he's not totally awful, but yeah, it's pretty weird that any foreign club would be chasing him
I don't know about fm16, but in 15 and previous versions you'll often see a "Wnt" from a club who will never actually put a bid in even if you offer the player for sale
>>
>>66383847
That just means that they've scouted him personally or have declared interest to the media.

I'm trying to check if I can put their ranking at 10 or something and see what happens. I'll also need to put reserves team in it to avoid players simply rotting on the bench too. Doubt I'll play with it, it's a fine experiment but I expected more clubs in the top division. I'm just worried that considerign the clubs in there they happen to get in the top 10 of rankings that nearly half the D1 gets in Euro competitions; seems a bit broken. Well it would be the case if you do it with Slovenia, and at least the clubs are actually better. Seems like a fun db, so I'm pondering, I don't really wanna drop my regular Triglav save. I'll simulate some more and keep you updated.
