It was his own fault for not developing and working on his positioning and anticipation as a goalkeeper.
He always relied on his world class reflexes, which were enough years ago, but now that his reflexes have slightly suffered, his poor positioning and intelligence as a GK has been exposed.
Look at Buffon, his reflexes aren't that great, but he has always been good at his positioning and anticipation of the ball. And he's still world class.

That's the point, his goalkeeping skills like positioning and anticipation were always lacking compared to other great keepers. He always relied on almost superhuman reflexes but reflex is the first thing that goes away with age and now that he's lost it, all his shortcomings got exposed.
He's only 34, compare him to Buffon who's 38 and still a top 3 GK in the world
