What's is gonna be, /sp/?
>>
>>65953414
Austin has to compete with UT
>>
>>65953681
The Rams have to compete with USC and UCLA

And yet......
>>
>>65953414
Charlotte should have an mlb franchise
>>
>>65953705
LA metro area: 12.8 million
Austin: 2 million
>>
>>65953784
Exactly. That's a LOT of Trojans fans.

>>65953739
Maybe. I'd like to see if the Panthers can prove there's money to be made, but at the same time that's another team on the east coast and big gaps everywhere else on the map.
>>
>>65953812
Teams need to divided up by population not geography
>>
>>65953784
>austin 2 million

???
>>
>>65953834
>population
>not geography
Then why the fuck are there pro-sports teams in Tampa, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Cinncinati, Portland and Sacramento?
>>
>>65953414
Austin and San Antonio are full of liberal cucks and over-the-border Mexicans who have no interest in American sports. There is no market there for a reason.
>>
>>65953875
None of those franchises are successful
>>
>>65953869
?? indeed.

Even in OP link it's at 1 million. You can add metro area but then you're including San Antonio and it goes up to 4 million.
>>
>>65953888
The first response to "there is no market" is the goddamn San Antonio Spurs, and the second response is, you just accused TEXAS of having too many liberals.

You might be insane.
>>
>>65953869
Metro area
>>65953875
Tampa metro area: 4 million
Cleveland: 2 million (more than Austin)
Cincinnati: 2.1 million
Portland: 3 million
Sacramento: 2.2 million
Although I cannot tell you why Jacksonville has a NFL team
>>
>>65953950
These numbers are largely not enough, especially considering PDX has 3 million and just an NBA team, and Cleveland has 2 million and a team in all major sports.

My only thought on JAX is that Orlando (home of DisneyWorld) didn't want a sport with all the violence, but then Anaheim has the the NHL so who the fuck knows.

There are cities AND metro areas larger than CLE, CIN, PDX and SMF that have zero teams. Because geography.
>>
>>65954038
There's one other thing to consider
TV market size
http://www.stationindex.com/tv/tv-markets
>San Antonio: #37
>Austin: #49
>>
>>65954073
>philly larger than DFW
lolno
>also
Raleigh-Durham NFL team when?
>>
>>65954100
Raleigh durham nfl team would be cool, maybe the jags will move

>picking a spot based on metro area
This does not always work, not all cities are the same. Oftentimes it's just suburbs, but if the city is large enough to have an identity of its own (say, Anaheim, or Tacoma, or Ft. Worth), it will just piss them off, and they won't go to games.
>picking a city based on TV share
There's nothing else to watch in San Antonio. The market will grow if you put a team there (or wherever), it's a chicken/egg thing.
>picking a spot based on specifically the city
I recognize metro area plays a role, but it's the city's name you have on that shit. It's been over ten years and I still have no strong opinion on Jacksonville.
>>
>>65954191
Market's already saturated by the other Carolina team
>>
>>65954220
True.

Because geography.
>>
>>65953784
Where are you getting 2 million for Austin, the metro area for Austin is closer to 1.3 at best. Also the LA metro area is closer to 18 million now.

is expansion even viable anymore?

ever since the economy tanked 2008 it doesn't seem plausible anymore.
>>
>>65955129
It took 8 years to get back there, but we're headed in the right direction since then, provided you don't vote for Trump.
>>
>>65955141
>provided you don't vote for Trump.
>>
>>65955166
Well, yeah.

I don't think anyone should have to explain the benefits of liberals to a Canuck.
>>
Another consideration that should be make, though it almost certainly isn't by the actual leagues, is the availability of talent.

The nfl for example, is severely lacking depth and talent in several popular position like QB, RB, SS/FS and CB. This season was one of the worst I've watched in years. more teams just means more mediocre players getting paid like they're actually entertaining. obviously the leagues don't care, but as fans it should be something to consider.

If the MLB's young talent translates to more fans, maybe consider expansion. really only the NBA is in a position to consider adding teams. Tiny rosters (adding 2 new teams means like 18 extra players), rapidly growing international and domestic popularity, and most importantly a shitload of talent all over the place.
>>
>>65956108
I'll only agree with you if the 76ers can get to 16+ wins this season.
>>
>>65956108
>RB, S, CB
Maybe if they stopped reducing the potential talent pool by 75% by not allowing whites to play those positions the talent level would increase.
>>
>>65954038
>Cleveland has a team in all major sports
>>
>>65956254
Indians, Browns, Cavs. Did I miss a major sport? No, sir, no I did not.
