I'm from Milan.
We use 'Inter' to refer to Inter, and both 'Milan' or 'AC' for AC Milan.
"AC" is probably the most used
Keep in mind we pronunce it "A (as in 'car') - CHI"
>>
>>65722112
What do you mean "which one?"
>>
when people say Milan it's obvious they mean AC because Inter has never been relevant and nobody outside of poor district Milan knows it or cares for it

There's AC Milan and Inter Milan. I want to know which one you're referring to when you say 'Milan'.
>>
>>65722087
>It's well known that it's just Milan

Uh.... not well known by me anyway. Me (and literally everyone I've ever met) I've always said AC and so have my friends.

Also, on SKY, BBC, ESPN, BT etc. they've always said AC. So really there is literally no reason I would have to call them 'Milan' which to me sounds very ambiguous as there are in fact two Milans, one of which won the CL just a few years ago.

They don't though, you're chatting codshit lad.

There are two clubs in Milan, Football Club Internazionale Milano and Associazione Calcio Milan. One does not even have 'Milan' in the name. When referring to these two clubs it is only possible that you could mean AC Milan when talking about 'Milan'.

If you couldn't tell by this thread, there's a pretty fucking big flaw being discussed right now. They don't even know their own name. They have an identity crisis. They may have been one of the best teams in the world, but they don't even know who they are.
>>
>>65722463
Depends. What kind of Borussia are we talking abou here, BV Borussia or Borussia VfL?
>>
>>65722463
>>65722179

Here's the thing

If you asked 100 million football fans who AC were, I reckon that 100 million of them would answer "Oh yeah, AC of Milan in Italy"

i.e. they'd know EXACTLY what you were talking about

Now with the examples you have given, I'd say maybe 50k at a push.

I personally didn't know those teams even had letters attached to their club name. I've always known them as Lazio, Roma etc.

However with AC, well that's their name. It's AC because it's too easy to confuse with Inter as they are both Milan.

This times a thousand.

Everyone here is forgetting one very crucial thing: It doesn't matter what convention is. It doesn't matter whether or not people commonly say "AC' when referring to "AC Milan". What matters is whether or not people can recognize it and define it the same way you would when you say it.

For instance, almost nobody I know actually pronounces tomato as "to-mah-to". Yet if I said "to-mah-to" instead of "to-may-to", fucking everyone would know what I mean, even if it's not what the conventional pronunciation is. And what basis do you have to say I'm wrong? It's mechanically correct in every aspect. That's how language and communication works.

David Luiz's first name is David and is surname is Luiz. He has 'Luiz' on his shirt because that's what is surname is.

Same applies to Ronaldo.

Roberto Carlos is different.

That's the entire point. Milan can refer to either AC or Inter, that's why it's easier to use those. But some autists still don't get it and will say "Milan" confusing everyone

one thing is not caring, the other is just spouting objectively wrong opinions.
Luiz, Ronaldo or Carlos are not surnames. They are arbitrary first names, could have been composed the other way.
If their parents decided to name them Luiz David, Ronaldo Cristiano, Carlos Roberto, Enrique Luis, that'd be perfectly valid, they're all first names.
