It depends on the sport, how good I am, and how much they were paying. In general, Nike is a better bet because they do a much better job of marketing their athletes, which leads to other commercial deals down the line. This is especially true in the US, because Adidas is basically invisible over here.

As an American, Nike without a doubt. And Under Armour would be 2nd. Adidas is rapidly losing market share (already been passed by UA) and is on its way to irrelevancy as made clear from its retarded college football and NBA uniform designs. I'd go with Adidas. Of all the boots and trainers I've ever owned the Adidas ones have always been the comfiest and arguably the best looking.
I think they make some of the best looking kits too, although I'm not sure about the current international ones with the stripes on the sides rather than on the sleeves.
I like Nike but their boots and trainers just don't last as long as the Adidas ones. Doesn't help that they continue to fuck up the England kits either.

Nike outsells Adidas when it comes to apparel as well, but shoe sales are what people tend to focus on because they're just so dominant in that area. They're also very strong in soccer, which is odd because that's really supposed to be Adidas' sport. And obviously, they dominate football as well, but that's a given since it's an American sport.

And that would be great if Adidas was a high fashion brand. But it's not. It's a sports brand, and trying to be high fashion is the reason they fell behind Under Armour in North America and why they keep falling further and further behind Nike worldwide.
