The gun is too easy to run out of in that game IMO. Even without option plays, you can literally run HB inside zone from the spread flex against heisman cpu all game.
One of the most important things is stringing out the defender. Keep running almost diagonally and putting some distance in between while you figure out your next read. Also, a QB with high elusiveness helps as he won't get suctioned tackled as often.
