I always had my fastballs (4 seam, 2 seam, Cut) around 86-88. That was the top end of my velocity. I threw junk. A curve with a few different drops (12-6, 2-8 sweep depending on release), a circle change because I got more drop on it than I did throwing it any other way, and a slider that I never could rely on. Making it a 3-game series means, if Cole pitched game 1 and it went 3 games with the Pirates winning, plus the usual 1 travel day off and 1 day off before the NLDS, Cole could pitch again in game 1 on regular rest. Plus the division champs would be waiting and getting cold the whole time.

I think a good compromise would be to give teams with actual geographic rivalries (e.g. NYM vs. NYY) 1 or 2 series a year to play each other. Meanwhile, teams that lack any kind of rivalry like San Diego or Colorado can fuck off back to their own league permanently. We could have the following annual or semi-annual series:

I can simply say that I place no value in the concessions you are proposing on behalf of wild card teams, because I don't think any more concessions are required. The previous 8-team playoff system was unfair to division champs, and the current 10-team postseason system with 1 wc game serves everyone fairly. Spending 4-5 days to determine the best second-place team (which could actually be a third-place team) is more than they deserve. These teams deserve to rake in as much as two game's worth more gate than division winners while also getting an exclusive spotlight for a week before the rest of the playoff teams start playing?
