In CF, Abraham Almonte? No thanks. At 3B, it's a platoon led by Urshela. I like him, and he's going to be a good one in the future, but he doesn't have a great bat. Didi has already shown a vast improvement from his year with the D-backs to his year with the Yankees. Even with his rocky start. The scouts wouldn't have been confident in Castro and Hicks if they didn't think they could improve them, or utilize them better. Remember Brosius, O'Neill, and Martinez? What were they doing before coming to the Yankees? All of them had there best years when they were with the Yankees, AND they were all in their 30's. Even then, let's look more recently at Chris Young. He is definitely more "one dimensional" than the players that you named, yet the Yankees got more production out of him than teams that previously had him did.

McCann won the Silver Slugger this year, despite his second half struggles; Gardner had a career year, making the All-Star team and being a finalist for the Gold Glove. Even Headley and Ellsbury had several hot streaks throughout the season where they were one of the biggest contributors to the team.

Lindgren and Shreve will be an effective bridge to the Betances/Miller duo. Pazos will be effective at coming in when a reliever puts runners on base. Bullpen depth doesn't mean that everyone has to be Betances-level of pitching. It means that everyone has a role to play, and is effective at that role.
