The reason they get shit is because Liverpool FC is much more like a cult than a football club. Their fans are different to other fanbases. I think the major difference is that they're ultra-sensitive to criticism of their club, to the point where their fanbase will flat-out reject almost all negative points about the way they play or their players.
Anyone from England, and probably the rest of the UK but I can speak for England mainly, will confirm what I'm saying here.
