I would be ok with this. Even if it meant a Cusb World Series.

i like what i'm seeing in this thread
>>64279057
I really don't. The 2nd WC is attainable though.
>what's separating them from last year and next year?
The rotation is a bit better since they won't have to rely on AAA backups. The Fernando Rodney Experience finally came to an end. Furbush will be back. Cano will most likely be better. He played most of 2015 with abdominal pain and some infection or whatever. His 2nd half numbers were great.
There is no black hole at catcher anymore. M's catchers were historically and unprecedentedly horrible this year. A slash line of .159/.205/.259. Just by fixing that position they'll be a lot better. They have an actual OF now instead of this bullshit. >>64277564 There's just a lot less that can go wrong now.
>>64279164
If they had won one more game, or if Oakland had lost the last game, they would have had a tiebreaker for the WC in 2014. They missed it by a lot this year

It's going to be just like the 2011 season all over again when Theo went out and blew all that money in Boston.
He's practically painted the team into a corner. If they don't win it all, they'll be the biggest laughingstock of the entire league all over again.

>>64279137
It's probably unlikely. The Pirates are, IMO, going to have a down 2016 and will have to shoot for 2017 with guys like Bell and Glasnow a little older.
Red Sox
>>64279289
Funny eh, i think it was our (Can i say our?) senior managment who said div win was the 2016 target
>>64279137
With the Cubs loading up for war, the division seems unlikely. A wild card is still realistic if the Dbacks take games away from whoever is second in the NL West between the Giants and Dodgers though. The winner of that division is probably going to have a smaller lead than previous years with another real team in the mix now.
>>64279346
I'm a Mets fan but I would love to see the Pirates win the division next year. It would be a huge fuck you to the Cusb fans who already cocky as shit based upon one successful series against the Cardlels.
If Glasnow comes up and blows away the competition, the Buccos will be in it. I think he's the key though.

Mets and Cubs are both NL teams; they could meet earlier in the playoffs but not in the World Series (which is NL vs. AL).
And yes, games and series between regional rivals like Yankees-Mets do get more attention and higher attendance. Regional pride is one of those universal things across all sports I guess.
>>64279525
Interleague game started in the mid-90s, so some people like to say that these types of rivalry games, like Mets-Yankees, Dodgers-Angels, Cubs-White Sox, are a fad.
I would tend to agree, although they are some of the most fun games to watch during the season, even if your team is bad. The real rivalries though are the divisional rivalries.

This most likely, with the Pirates being too Jewish to make any real strides to getting some players they don't have much of a chance this year. You gotta fight the Tardnials and the cubs this year for division and then wild card. The good news is that the rest of the NL is so bad that the Pirates may have a chance at playing the wild card
>>64279798
alleging logical fallacies are good way to hide the fact that you have no answer to the argument
Mets are just an overly cocky team because of their one season of success after many of failure. Not just in the same boat as the Cubs, but they're sharing a cabin room.

Sewage once leaked into the home locker room in the Oakland Coliseum. The walkway from the BART station makes it look like you're being marched into prison. At that point, what can you really do? You just have to come to terms with the fact that your team has bad chemistry and chokes in big games.
>>64280454
It is retarded, but when you're the Dodgers and you want a WS now, it's a pretty good move, they gotta find someone to fill in Greinke spot. I mean look at how many prospects got moved around this off season, look at the Braves and Dbacks. When you want a WS that badly, it's possible they could do it, idk if it'll follow through but they will at least talk about it

>>64285413
At times it was the OP picture, other times somebody would post it within the first few posts. It was basically obligatory for a while there, at least a couple years ago. I don't believe it was a link, I have it saved somewhere I believe on a different computer but I have no idea.
Oh, and the list included Ken Burns baseball, smartass.
>>64285459
Friendly reminder that based Ray Fosse laughed at this dumbfucks death on live TV
Would you Mrs Met?
Speaking of Ken Burns' Baseball, the first inning is god tier but large segments of the first four innings just bum you out constantly. I stopped watching midway through the Babe Ruth one and didn't pick it up again for multiple reasons, mostly that I was watching it with family and got tired of dragging them along.
I'm really not too interested in the one about the negro leagues or the one about New York dominating baseball. The one about the sixties looks a little thin and then I can't even remember what the rest are about. I can imagine the top of the 10th inning is really good, 2001, the red sox, etc, the bottom is looks decent as well. But do innings 5-9 improve or what?
That aside, the first inning and the background music of the series alone make it must own. Put it on in the background on a hot lazy Sunday afternoon for maximum cozy, especially if you mix with radio or TV of live baseball.
>>64285518
The only way I got through the series was by watching it while I was on the treadmill. I don't see how people can watch it just sitting on the couch, especially the earlier parts.

After the big Todd Frazier trade, the Chicago White Sox now need an outfielder and it could be Cespedes or Upton, either would be huge.
Are the White Sox on the way to winning another offseason?
Now if only all these offseason wins could turn into regular season wins but I guess beggars can't be choosers.
>>64284042

>>64289942
The only brightside to all of this white sox talk is that they're in the worst division in the AL and possibly MLB. The NL east is probably worse though.

Has there ever been a case of a "winning offseason" that lead to massive success or even an eries?

Are today's baseball players bigger than past ones?
>>64290040
I feel like every team that "wins" the off season and is projected to do really well just crumbles. You need a combination of FA, home grown talent and veterans. Other than the Yankees who recently has won a ring by signing every possible FA?

The Yankees also drafted and scouted extremely well. Pettitte, Rivera, Williams, Posada, Jeter, Orlando Hernandez. You don't win rings solely with FA signings. I'm also convinced Jeter was the biggest reason for their success in the 90s and 2000.

Yeah this is weird. He had a back injury this season and came back seemingly very healthy and then threw a no-hitter and had a bunch of great starts. I was sad he left Seattle/happy he was going to get paid a lot.
People had definitely been wondering what was up with the deal since he was never added to the roster
Whatever faggots, we have Kenta Maeda anyway, better than Yu Darvish.
Things like this remind me to be grateful that Felix has never had a serious injury in 10 years
>>64290876
He's never seen a post season game in that span either.
If Jerry somehow manages to get Kuma back on the original 2 year offer since he maybe has more leverage, then a rotation of Felix/Kuma/Miley/Walker/[Karns/Paxton] would help them out so much.

That was the beginning of the end for that season.
3 games at det followed by 3 games at home against them trailing them only by like 2.5 games or something. If there was a time to redeem the hype of 2011 and make a run for the division like everyone had predicted, that was it. Instead they blow an 8-1 lead like that(as in the video in the post) and then go onto lose 4 more of the last 5 essentially burying the season into one of the most disappointing seasons in White Sox history that some fans still dare not say its name.

He was literally invited to the World Series of Bowling to compete (he did fairly ok breaking even though, something tells me the nerves got to him because he's a 250~ lifetime bowler)

"It is not part of my authority of responsibility here to make any determination concerning Mr. Rose's eligibility as a candidate for election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In fact, in my view, the considerations that should drive a decision on whether an individual should be allowed to work in Baseball are not the same as those that should drive a decision on Hall of Fame eligibility. … Thus, any debate over Mr. Rose's eligibility for the Hall of Fame is one that must take place in a different forum."
-Rob Manfred, Commissioner of Baseball

Seems pretty clear, being banned from MLB and being eligible for the HoF are determined by different people and are unrelated things.

Those old racist c.ucks of the BBWAA are the one's that determine HOF ballots, not the MLB. If they want to include him as part of a ballot, they will, if not then oh well. The MLB doesn't really have control over it because they gave all that power to the BBWAA.
Pete's eligibility to be an active participant in the MLB (coach of any kind, scout, etc), however, is completely within the domain of the MLB's power. And they refused to allow him to be part of it.
And if you ask me, I agree with them. Dude is obviously still cancerous and stuck in his vices, and it's obvious he'd influence the game in such a way.
He should be in the HOF though.
