Rockhold solidly beat him on the feet and rendered his wrestling pretty ineffective though. I think it was pretty clear who was better on the ground too.There's also the question of whether Luke's stamina is what led to Chris having more success in the third round.
I don't think Chris winning the rematch is a safe bet by any means.

Chris was landing a lot of body kicks and Luke looked the more fatigued of the two. Don't think Chris' game plan was to take things to the ground. He was just gonna do lots of volume striking. It may not be a safe bet but I give him a better chance than Ronda against Holm 2 or Aldo against McGregor 2.

I feel like if he goes into that with a better game plan and maybe a little more discipline he could win it with the skillset he has.
Some things I noted in the fight was that Weidman wasn't really putting as much pressure on Rockhold as he should have. He was pretty much letting Rockhold have his way with those kicks. I don't know wether not pressuring him a lot was a cardio issue or wether he was just so surprised at the power of the kicks he was reluctant to close the distance, but he really needed to put Rockhold on the back foot in order to avoid his offense.
Another thing was that when Weidman actually tried to push, he got caught with that check hook that Luke ALWAYS throws. It's his go-to technique, he should simply never have been caught by that. Weidman was always good at measuring distance and timing and in this fight I feel like that was just thrown out the window. He was doing good work when he was catching Rockhold with kicks of his own, and in the early stages of the 3rd, I thought Rockhold's kicks were coming a lot more laboured and a lot less "whipping" than in the early rounds.
Then there's that wheel kick. What the fuck possessed him to throw that when he clearly doesn't practice it judging by the shitty distance he had and the poor execution of it I can't say, but that was such a lapse of discipline.
All in all, I think the fact that we saw these flaws so obviously makes it clear what he needs to work on, at least.

I agree. Rockhold was getting backed up and was dumped fairly easily against the cage in the third. (I'm sure being on antibiotics had something to do with his cardio). Chris seemed reluctant to open up with his hands. What surprised me most about the fight was how easily Rockhold handled Weidman once he got him down. Even if fhe wheel kick led to it, Weidman still got outclassed once he was on his back.
Complete speculation, but I thought Weidman looked slow in the there as did Rockhold. Javier Mendez said the same thing and said he suspects there was something wrong with Chris they weren't saying. chris alluded to it in his Instagram post also. Whether that is the case or not, I think he will come back stronger and the rematch will look a lot different now that they have gotten a feel for eachothers strengths and weaknesses.
