>>64253525
Oh, yankbros. You're going to have quite a time with Ackley.
I was one of the biggest Ackley supporters throughout, however, that last season sealed the deal for me that he is a top tier bust. I have no idea about the depth on your team, but expect a lot of popups and groundouts to the right side. On the plus side he'll get hot in August out of nowhere and give everyone hope that he's finally "getting it".
Is St. Louis the best meam team?
>>64253525
>>64253611
how did seattle manage to ruin his career to that extent? a tragedy
>>64253525
"SWING and a miss, Ackley goes down swinging. That's his third strikeout today and the inning is over with runners on 2nd and 3rd."
Get used to hearing variations of that.
>>64253642
My personal belief is when they moved him from 2nd base to the outfield during his 2nd full season. That was a whole season before Cano showed up. He was a GG finalist at 2nd in his 1st full season. So, instead of working well with him when he had a really bad slump they brought up other prospects and messed with his head by moving him to OF without really helping him. That was Eric Wedge's doing.
Then the next year, matchup Mclendon really messed him up by sitting him after hot streaks or hot days, just because of a matchup here or there.
Then last year was a total train wreck. He came in heavier and just looked like a dead man. It was just more compounding of what had happened the previous two years.

I read this in Rick Rizzs voice with that accentuated "SWING".

Some guy has been keeping track of every ballot that voters have made public. Only 50 votes have been made public so far.
Bagwell is on 82% of them.
Bonds is on 52%
Griffey is on 100%
Hoffman is on 72%
Martinez is on 48%
McGwire is on 18%
Mussina is on 48%
Piazza is on 90%
Raines is on 76%
Schilling is on 50%
Trammel is on 46%
Sosa is on 16%
>>64254727
and Clemens is on 52%
>field manager of a professional baseball teams is called a "manager"

Because the manager of a major league club is in constant communication with the front office of the organization. Minor League clubs and high-schools don't have a front office.
The position is more involved at the major league level.
That's why retard.

Martinez
Trammell
Mussina
Kent
Raines
Hoffman
Marginal but still worthy if guys like Fred Lynn or the like are in:
McGriff (I hate the arbitrary 500 HR rule) he was a fantastic player
Lee Smith (Retired as the all-time saves leader and that didn't get broken for quite a while. That's a pretty big deal I believe.)
Carlos Delgado (It's criminal that he got less than 5% of the vote in his first year. That guy was great.)

Three People You Meet In HOF Voting
>1. The Barry Bonds Voter
Virtually everybody who voted for him voted for Roger Clemens; virtually everybody who voted for Clemens voted for him.
A person who voted for Bonds was much more likely to vote for:
Mark McGwire: 19 percent, compared to 6 percent of Bonds non-voters
Mike Piazza: 84 percent to 69 percent
Meanwhile Bonds voters were much less likely to vote for:
Edgar Martinez: 15 percent to 36 percent
Lee Smith: 12 percent to 33 percent
Mike Mussina: 22 percent to 35 percent
>2. The Curt Schilling Voter
The Curt Schilling voter is far more likely than the Schilling non-voter to vote for:
Jeff Bagwell: 72 percent to 51 percent
Mike Mussina: 42 percent to 20 percent
Tim Raines: 72 percent to 50 percent
Alan Trammell: 29 percent to 22 percent
and less likely to vote for
Jeff Kent: 9 percent to 18 percent
Lee Smith: 18 percent to 31 percent
Sammy Sosa: 3.3 percent to 6.6 percent
>3. The Short-Ballot Voter
But some voters find a way to choose just seven, or four, or even two candidates. Of those who voted for seven or fewer, the preferred candidates (relative to the rest of the voters) are Fred McGriff, Alan Trammell and Lee Smith. They especially hate Bonds/Clemens, Larry Walker and Jeff Bagwell.
The Hall of Fame purged scores of non-active writers from the voter rolls this year. So what can we learn about the purged voter?
They aren't Bonds voters. Just 33 percent voted for Bonds, compared to 39 percent on all public ballots.
They aren't Schilling voters. Just 24 percent voted for Schilling, compared to 45 percent on all public ballots.
They are short-ballot voters. Only 29 percent voted for 10 names last year, compared to 57 percent of all public ballots.

>>64255509
Kazmir got exposed and Gallardo was excellent for the first half and then was solid in the post season.
I like Gallardo not because he's a beaner but because he can actually pitch and survive a stacked Toronto lineup with a 90mph fastball.
But between him and Kazmir, Chen is better than both of them, by a good margin.
>>64255509
Kazmir, Gallardo, Kenta Maeda. Lincecum and Kennedy have potential but are far from sure things.

>>64255560
I was actually pretty high Gallardo, but I hate the idea of giving up a draft pick to the fucking Rags. Chen likes to give up the homerun a lot and doesn't eat up that many innings per appearance, or so I've read. He would also cost a draft pick. Kazmir just falls apart in the second half which sucks massive dick, because he would be great otherwise. Tough decision overall
>>64255582
>Doug Fister
Bro r u for real.
I got to see him close out a game at dodger stadium earlier this year and man that dude completely lost it. He is nothing like he was in 2014 with that sub 3 ERA.
He lost his starting job to Tyson Ross' little brother lol
He gave up a 470ft dinger to Crawford in the 9th inning it was only because the Nats had a 2 run lead that he got the save.
I wouldn't sign him unless it was a minor league deal.
>>64255615

>>64255720
>I went to a game and he pitched bad so he's never going to be good again
great analysis daddy-o
>>64255735
Teams don't "give" opt-out clauses. It's a player/agent influenced clause.
And trams do have an opt-out of their own it's called a trade clause.
If a player wishes to assure his spot on the team he would then have a 'no-trade' clause.
Pretty simple
>>64255735
The player is more likely to sign if he can opt out early and get a contract for more money elsewhere if he still preforms on this same level as when he was first signed

Cueto has a career 5.5 ERA in the post season or something like that. Litterally a choker.
Also he was complete shit in the 2nd half of last year posting a 4.76 ERA with the Royals. He was probably one of the worst trade deadline moves. His ONLY good game was the WS game against the mest. And i agree that was a legitmately good pitching performance. But it shows that hes extremely inconsistent. And you want to sign him to a long term deal?

I think this is Scioscia's last season. The Angels might tank.
Houston should lock up the division pretty easily, they have no excuse not to at this point.
>>64257544
I doubt it since Moreno was willing to let his GM walk out over keeping Sosh
This is a picture of Kenta Maeda arriving in Los Angeles to meet with the Doyers.

Is Maeda as good as everyone says? I mean no one is, but is he really any good at all?
Can someone kindly explain this?
I get that a ball beyond the infield ends the game but why all on the 1st - 2nd base said?
>>64257774
the batter is known for pulling the ball in that direction

A lot of people disagree about him, actually. His biggest supporters are probably overrating him by a lot.

They must have been expecting the hitter to have an extreme tendency to hit it to the right side.

Is there anyway the lastros don't win their division? The only competition they have is Texas basically.

Maybe we just listen to different people. I expected Yu Darvish, for example, to be as good as Tanaka has been, and hoped he could be better (and he has). Tanaka has surpassed my expectations as well.
I think recent history goes to show that the best way to determine if a foreign pitcher has a good shot of success is to scout him traditionally - his body, power, stamina, stuff, poise, confidence, etc.
If he's built like an American pitcher and throws like one (and the results are great) I'd be more hype than a guy with the same numbers who is merely 6', 190 and who can't get swinging strikes when he wants.

I was at the game in SF when Hudson gave his farewell speech. It was a sweet moment watching him reflect on his career and they had a video of a bunch of old coaches and teammates saying goodbye. Even Billy Boy made an appearance. Plus Tomlinson hit an inside the park homer which was fucking rad.

Well the mets need offense badly. Conforto will be better but you need someone to pick up the missing bat of Cespedes.

I'm still sorta amazed at the impact he had in just around 2 seasons at SF, at the end of his career no less when other than half a season really did not perform that well.
>>64260110
Is this a norm for him or just a rarity?
>>64261423
Tim and his wife did a lot of humanitarian work out here, plus you had some fans and supporters from his Oakland days happy to see him back in the bay area.
>>64261438
Johnny Cueto is one of the most inconsistent pitchers you'll see. Hell probably be fine in the babby league with the exception of a few teams (Diamondbacks, Cubs). He gets absolutely BTFO in the AL though.

>>64262540
Lifelong fans since the trade deadline
>>64262711
I agree. Until we won in 2015 I wished they had never made the WS in 2014. Now, i'm okay with it.
For a year I woke up in the middle of the night at least 3 times a week thinking about it. I was mad Alex hit the triple in the bottom of the 9th because that gave us even more hope. It was bad, and frankly pretty embarrassing to be that emotional about sports.
I had the same mindset this year too. I would have rather we lost in the ALCS or the ALDS than lose the WS again because losing in 2014 was honestly one of the worst things I've experienced.
>>64262605
>Swear to god i had PTSD from the 2014 WS. Winning in 2015 got rid of it.
As a Giants fan, 2010 and 2012 didn't get rid of the 2002 childhood PTSD.
Had to wait until 2014 because the situations had to be similar for me.
2002 and 2014 both SF teams were Wildcard entries, both went 7 games, both had 3-2 lead after 5 games heading into enemy territory.
The difference obviously other than the result was how they were achieved, whereas 2002 was literally choking a lead and chance to win it all, 2014 was literally (Bumgarner) being clutch as fuck and defending a lead to win the title.
Essentially it had to poetic in a sense for closure to really take effect.
How will Daddy Cuck embarrass himself today, /mlb/
>>64262749
doesn't bother me anymore. From oct 2014 -oct 2015 I couldn't even say his name.
Now, I don't give a fuck and i'm at peace with it. Perhaps 2015 couldn't have happened without 2014
>>64262829
It was tough to see the Jays lose the way they did in game 6 because they had so many chances. I would still take that loss over a world series loss. Getting so close and coming up short fucking blows.
At least there is the Heyward press conference to stifle some of the intense boredom from this cold stove
I'd rather go out in the WS so we can at least have finally fucking made it
>>64262898
The ALCS is usually a tougher match up than the WS. I would have felt pretty good about their chances against the Mets.
>>64262937
Depending on how you regard division and pennant banners, 2nd and 29th are essentially the same. You did not win what everyone plays for. It's nice to make it to the world series, but if you did not win it's really not all that great.
