Not for a good while. Ilitch is almost 90 and probably near death. That's the only reason he was willing to dump buckets of money to top players. Trying to win a WS before he dies. The problem is that he has now handcuffed the team with Cabrera into his early 40s when he will be much fatter and his production will fall off, yet he will still command a ton of money that no one will be willing to take on in a trade situation. I assume his family will have control and probably take a more controlled position on spending for talent. They'll be competitive in the ALC, but won't win a WS.

Not just usual but absolutely followed by every team is major league baseball.
It isn't until their arbitration year that they get a raise... Through arbitration.
Nobody is going to give some 20 year old fuck a contract with less than 600 innings pitched. Not just pitchers but all players.
The only exception that I could think of at the top of my head is Mike Trout who makes above league minimum. He signed a 6 year 150m contract with just 3 seasons in the league.
The most funny example of this is
Madison Bamgarner who got a slight raise on his 500k salary after 2014 even though he's guaranteed a contract of at least 200m dollars next season.

The OF structure is heavily dependent upon Gutierrez being healthy. So it's going to rotate a lot. But mostly it seems far better than it was this season.
The IF is almost set with SS having a bit of depth with Marte, Taylor, and Sardinas (who will probably start in AAA). He said Lind will be heavily platooned at 1st against RHP, along with Montero for LHP. I'm wishing they can get a new backup 1B instead of Montero.
They need more SP depth. Right now they rely on Nuno swinging over to be a SP if Paxton has more fluke injuries and he's far more effective as relief. I'd really like if they made Montgomery a relief pitcher so that he can still be on the team and switch over if it needs to happen.

But if I had to choose between yes DH or no Dh, I'd pick yes DH. That way, hitters stick to what they do best and pitchers stick to what they do best. But still, I'd rather just have both leagues do their own thing.

I'm the same way, except I prefer NL rules by far. Every player hits and every player takes the field. Deviating from that formula for strategic purposes has a cost (burning the previous player for a pinch hitter, or even two players in the event of a double switch). It's beautiful and it works.
A player who can both pitch and hit is a special talent, and the rules shouldn't penalize any such player by declaring and codifying the assumption that all pitchers are incapable and undeserving of playing the complete game of baseball.
