Morning all, I've got three selections today on the jumps. Had a very strong weekend last week (though I don't believe I posted anything up) so hopefully I can repeat it today.
13.55 Sandown King Henry VIII Chase - Bristol De Mai 13/8
Rated 146 over hurdles, BDM was always intended to grow into a chaser, and he's made a good start to the swtich. Last time out he produced a scintilating round of jumping at Warwick to win by 19 lengths, and he receives 6lbs from todays rivals. Jockey Daryl Jacob takes the ride and seems very confident, describing him as the 'best horse in the race.' As De Mee opposes and looked in good shape when going down to More of That last month but I have a suspicion that he may want further than todays minimum trip, and the weight allowance will help our selection.
15.00 Sandown Tingle Creek Chase - Vibrato Valtat - 2/1
A couple of weeks ago it looked like we had Un De Sceaux, Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig lining up for the most mouth watering renewal of this prestigious 2m chase for years. Now they've all pulled out and the race has an underwhelming feel to it.
The rest of the runners are all decent but flawed animals. Josses Hill never really fulfilled its promise whilst novice chasing, and Mr. Mole remains an enigmatic chaser who I don't believe can be relied upon. If returning to his best former champion chaser Sire De Grugy has the raw ability to win this, and trainer Gary Moore is reportedly happy with his work back home...but I think SDG's best days are long gone. Third Intention lacks class, whilst Somersby is too often the bridesmaid and has age against him - though the horse is full of class. Special Tiara has been gambled well but was still beaten at last years champion chase by Somersby, otherwise his best bit of form seems to be an overrated 6 length beating of a knackered Sprinter Sacre.
This leaves our selection, who took very well to novice chasing last season. Though well beaten in the arkle I can't help but feel that had he not tried to take on UDS he would've been closer than the 13 lengths implies, and it was no surprise to see him reverse form with that days second place Gods Own when reappearing at Exeter in November. The yard have an excellent record in this and I think it has a very strong chance with improvement still to come.
15.20 Aintree - Grand Sefton Handicap Chase - Poole Master 8/1 ew.
The Pipe yard probably aren't firing on all cylinders this year, but I think they've got a good one in this competitive affair. Initially I looked at Rocky Creek, being the class horse in the race dropped down, but I'm not going to bet on a two time national runner conceding all that weight. Poole Master was well beaten on his reappearance this season but probably needed the run, and he goes again here only 2lbs higher than when he won it last season. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't at least make the frame, so at 8/1 he's a good ew prospect.

I haven't had the time to make a proper opinion about the Becher desu...if pushed I'd go for Portrait King, his form on soft and heavy is 14P21P. Then again I haven't done in depth analysis on the other lot so there could well be a horse who loves the mud just as much! I think he's on much better weight terms with Soll this time out so I'd go ew on PK, but as I said, that's if I had to bet and its not a strongly informed opinion at all - wouldn't put anyone off their own selection.
