Rakitic plays in a much more efficient midfield system. Based on talent alone, Rakitic is no where near Modric's level.

this so much, that midfield complimented each other so well and was so well balanced with each player offering both an attacking threat and defensive security. it's not even that di maria and alonso were better players than james and kroos, it's that a midfield with the former is tactically superior than the latter. and rakitic was basically the perfect xavi replacement
