I get The Show every 2 years or so after the price drops to 12 bucks or so and play OOTP for my rosterbation times.
Are there pitch/game speed sliders in 2k12?
Set it as slow as possible and play BP against a 'standard' windup delivery pitcher and learn to time his motion on the fastball. After you can pull clean flyballs and LDs at the lowest speed, crank the slider up to maximum and do the same. Try a few different windups with this strategy to get used to their different setups.
Now, find someone with a repertoire that has a bit of everything, a fastball, off-speed, down-break, side-break at common speeds. Do BP against them with the sliders at minimum, and try to time and identify pitch/location differences and tells as you try to pull clean LDs off everything. After enough proficiency, try with the sliders at maximum for a good while.
After you get fed up or satisfied, put the slider back at your preferred level and play the game normally.
For almost all of these games, it's hard to know when/how/if bat or swing location and swing timing actually affect where the ball goes.
Pro Yakyuu Spirits is the only one, as far as I know, that advertises and uses a 'realistic' calculated impact and outcome. PYS also has a bat and ball silhouette in the batting interface so it's doubly easy to learn to hit.
