Well that is true. We fans are no stranger to how bad the Sox farm situation is. It's so bad Gordon Beckham tops the list of "homegrown" position players. The half rebuild half contend is what killed us after the failure of 2011 and its continuing to. Other teams like the Cubs, twins, stros etc who blew it all up back then are now fielding not only decent but very good teams.
I said it before in 2011. We are about to enter a dark age. Who knows when we'll finally see some light again.

And yes, home runs help to win playoff games, but exclusively relying on home runs to score is a terrible strategy in the playoffs. I don't know the exact numbers, but if you look at the ways the Jays scored throughout the postseason, I imagine it'd be predominately home runs. Home runs are not a reliable way to get the majority of your runs with, you're more likely to strikeout if you are trying to hit them, and it also relies on a combination of the pitcher missing their spot and the batter having a good swing on it, or the pitcher hitting their spot and the better having an excellent swing on it. Contact hitters in scoring position wouldn't have guaranteed the Jays to not go 0-12 with RISP, but it would've improved their chances greatly.

You're not crazy. In the late 70s is when the closing pitcher role started getting bigger, only they would pitch 4 innings instead of 1. Dennis Eckersley was probably the best during that time and the 80s. Eventually in the early 90s is when the deep bullpens started popping up, leading to what we have now which is a mix of guys who specialize in it. Middle relievers, setup men, and closers. Now it's evolved to the point where most of those guys are throwing high heat, too. I doubt we will ever see a high-80s/low-90s reliever again. The norm is pretty much 95+ now out of any bullpen arm.

His timing and release point got fucked up when he tried in the past to throw a classic Lefty over-the-top delivery or a tighter or more shoulder heavy delivery.
Tidrow and Righetti trusted his body enough to stop testing delivery adjustments and let him keep his sling for good in 2013. In his first few years, they would sometimes tinker with him if he told them he was worried about his arm.
I saw him play in SJ in 2008, and his sling back then looked the same as '13-'14.
A bit of concrete data I think fits the 'kept the sling and learned command with it' is his K%, largely against lefties, went up around that time (25%L/20%R '10-'12 up to 33%L/26%R '13-'15) and Babip and BB% regressed following increasing command.
