My wife and I are going to join our local gym. I don't really need to - I'm slim (not skeleton-mode though), but admittedly unfit.
My wife, however, is pretty overweight and she wants to change that. I'm joining to try help her lose weight.

NBA would have a lot more parity without a salary cap.
The salary cap has expanded to the point now where you can have basically 3 or 4 guys on max deals at once. This just encourages guys to stack teams because they aren't going to make more money elsewhere anyways.
Sure LA and Boston might sign a bunch of people every year, but each team would truly be able to afford only 1 superstar.
Kevin Durant and LeBron's market value is WAY more than a max deal and this salary cap just defeats the supposed purpose of fair competition.

I want you to realize how stupid you are. Salary cap space isn't the only dictator of how much a player is worth and without a cap, there would be more collusion and under the table deals that it wouldn't matter.
There is so much parity in mlb and european soccer though right? Leicesterwinning the epl this year was so amazing because they had no money compared to the arab and russian owned billionaire teams who spend 50million euros on bench warmers who never see 90 minutes in an entire season.
